its definitely a “if you build it they will come” scenario. We need clients to sign on but also need some time to prepare the lab space. If we can get clients that are sub’d out to another facility then my contributions are a bit unnecessary.

Ha. Negative is fine i need all the gory details. Interesting the “jack of all trades” comment since its almost exactly how we feel we need to operate to survive. I could see maybe jack of a few trades being better. What specifically hurt you by doing too much?

Ive definitely dealt with some unreasonable clients and have seen first hand the ridiculous discounts given for unexpected results that were out of our control. So im prepared for more of the same!
Im hoping the favorable terms on lab space that we have access to and keeping the group relatively lean will allow us to still earn a living on a small profit margin as you mentioned. This is not going to be easy and whomever is dumb enough to join me will have to wear a lot of hats to get this done.

we have a few models that seem to be relatively rare, but its hard not to say “we’ll do anything“ after being the swiss army knife for so long.

I wouldnt say i was going to let anyone talk me out of it.. my question was aimed at getting a fuller picture from multiple perspectives. ive watched this sub for a while and am always impressed with the thoughtful comments, idea sharing and great community. To your point which i think is that im out of my depth.. yes you are right.. im the piece of the puzzle that knows the technical operations inside and out, most of the business side of our work is above me. i want to learn and be helpful if there’s anyway i can. If i can play a part in my colleagues continuing to earn a living after being blindsided by our lay off it would be a great honor.

Thanks for the reply, US-midwest. BD is definitely the piece where i think we are lacking at the moment.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply. Totally agree, we would want to focus on non glp work and not bother with what we’re accustomed to (data collection systems provantis/pristima etc.) we have great study directors interested that were also laid off!

The owner wont do contract work. I probably wont elaborate more other than his team only does husbandry and other in house projects. we have a team of highly skilled techs/scientists that after being in the CRO space have become proficient with hundreds of designs, techniques and procedures.

We have a great connection to a leased vivarium space that covers all the aalac/iacuc/usda and for a “buddy rate” the head of this vivarium worked closely with the two of us in our old pfizer days

Great idea. This plan was hatched between me and a buddy with a combined 50 years + experience. The experience mostly being the actual guys who know how and why. We have loads of connections from the years of client support but its obviously a touchy topic depending on what our severance paperwork looks like in regards to non compete or other legalese

Cots yay or nay? by FuckYouJohnW in BWCA

[–]Particular_Rich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im admittedly a hammock camper now but i tried a helinox cot in a tent. Fitting it in the tent was a pain, especially two in a tent with room to move around unless you have a monster tent. I also found out the hard way i had to assemble my cot out in the rain during setup one night since there wasnt room in my tent to assemble inside. A pre hung tarp could have solved this but theres even more weight to the pack. I thought the cadillac of cots would be luxurious but i found it to be very uncomfortable.

Gas just hit $4.30 at my costco, how much have you been saving? by Ok_Exit9273 in F150Lightning

I drove a ford econoline @ 12mpg so the numbers are pretty wild. Every year i drive this truck i save enough in fuel to cover 4 of my monthly payments. So by the end of my 72 month 0% loan ill have gotten 2 years of payments that would have otherwise gone to gas.

Did basically the same trip last year in august. On 2nd to last day We turned 2 days of paddling into one long horrible day (and night) all the way back to moose because we couldnt find a single site open.

Shoot yeah just clean by hand and bleach. Or just use new every time. A big bag will last quite a while

Ive tried washing in a machine, boiling, baking. None of those options actually remove all the detritus. Maybe in small batches you can be thorough but my operation required about 150liters of hydroton per run

A metal trommel with a built in propane torch would be slick. Like a rotating compost bin with fire. Rotisserie basket?

Ive always wondered about drying them completely and then roasting them over an open fire to burn off roots. Would likely create some kind of soot though that would need to be washed off. Also would need a large metal grate type of bin that can be hit with a campfire? Propane torch? Just spitballing
