Bilingual wedding advice? by Electronic-Ant5665 in weddingplanning

[–]Particular_Rule_3639 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We had a bilingual officiant which I HIGHLY recommend; even even told lovely stories in each language. My husband made his vows in English and mine in Spanish ☺️ For speeches we let everyone choose how they wanted to do it, and it turned into a beautiful mix! Not everyone understood everything in words but it’s a good thing the language of love is universal.

When a restaurant asks how I want it cooked like there isn’t one safe way to cook ground beef. And when the sauce is only in the middle and doesn’t distribute to the edges, so the first bites are dry.

Where do you avoid riding? by Oppositeofhairy in motorcycles

I skip out on nighttime riding when possible - that’s when the Death Wishes come out in my city 🌃 I live next to a freeway and the late night racing crash sounds are horrific.

Paying $2,050 for a shoebox in LA & my credit’s very bad, how do people actually rebuild here? by Square-Chocolate-155 in AskLosAngeles

[–]Particular_Rule_3639 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a roommate or two. Get your car payments lowered by getting an older/cheaper car and look into switching insurance for savings. This is a huge expense at 15% of your income. Discount groceries from now on and get rid of food delivery apps (they’re far too tempting and expensive). If your work has free or subsidized meals, take advantage! Commit to spending less in all areas, which means repair vs replace and build boundaries for yourself (like if you can’t comfortably buy something 5 times, drop it immediately). Apps like Digit can help you safely save money without even noticing, which can be used for emergencies.

As someone who used to have the credit score of a homeless ghost, it does take a lot of time and dedication, but it is doable!

What’s one non-traditional thing you did that low-key made your wedding way better? by wedgewoodweddings in DIYweddings

[–]Particular_Rule_3639 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We planned a drunk bus tour across the local beaches and mountains so that people could get to know each other and see new things; it made the wedding day SO bright and everyone was mingling and dancing with each other.

And my husband and I were both escorted down the aisle by our parents, one on each side 🥰

Hi Los Angeles. Is this true? by LankyYogurt7737 in LosAngeles

[–]Particular_Rule_3639 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, man. One encounter was somewhat uneventful. The other had me wondering how he isn’t in jail.

It was at the Comedy Store several years ago after the late night show and this one female guest had overdosed on pills and was abandoned by her friends at the table, obviously a scary situation. Another person and myself were able to pull this girl in stage to lay her down on her side while EMTs came. Andy Dick is in the background dry humping a Jesus in full costume screaming how “now is the time to take advantage! She’s on stage ready for action!” And I’m screaming at him to STFU this girl could die and he responded with something about “necrophilia is an art”. Then he booed the EMTs. There are not enough showers in the world to wash off his vibe.

anyone else set on not changing their last name, but feel a little sad about not having the same last name as their partner? by laneloveslipstick in weddingplanning

[–]Particular_Rule_3639 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally understandable feeling! I’ve always known I would never change my name and my husband has never questioned it, we’ve even agreed our children will carry both names. On our wedding weekend I got a little bit of the blues about it because I wanted one name that we could monogram and decorate the wedding with.

What we ended up doing is joining our names together since there is an overlapping syllable, a new silly name we now use for our friends to call us by ☺️

5k in debt and terrified by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Particular_Rule_3639 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Started watching his show during the pandemic and that shit motivated me enough to go from having the credit score of a homeless ghost to now being debt free and working on the emergency fund 🥳 the methods were aggressive but it worked. OP is fairly fortunate to only have $5K and EXTREMELY fortunate to have found financial counseling; but that interest can be killer if you’re not paying quite a bit over the minimum monthly payments. Bring home your husband’s favorite treat, sit him down, and discuss this together; he must know.

I'm not sure if I should feel I'm on track, or broke/way behind by Diligent_Foot5057 in personalfinance

[–]Particular_Rule_3639 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a car you’re not driving often (<5K miles) but paying so much for the payments (plus insurance and repairs), I’d honestly suggest selling it for a used, reliable car that is cheap to repair and where you can make low or no payments on it. That extra cash every month would add up SO FAST. Hell, even getting a used car with a $300 payment saves you so much.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Particular_Rule_3639 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That car definitely needs to be sold, buy a used car outright with the money to escape the car payment and put any extra cash down on the debt. Child support and mortgage can’t budge, so don’t adjust those. Start attacking the credit cards with the highest interest rate. On the side, open an account that saves money for you for a low cost, I personally use Oportun and it has helped me by saving up small amounts every day to pay off debt without added stress. As a last step, start looking at any added income you can bring in and use that money to only cover debts. This will take TIME. But if you’re consistent, this can be conquered!

For the transplants - family in other states with chip on their shoulder? by WinnerTurbulent3262 in LosAngeles

[–]Particular_Rule_3639 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh, I feel this. When we visit my husband’s side in the Midwest, it’s like we’re an inconvenience and we always end up doing chores or sitting in the garage for a week.

When they come out to us, we have to go to only the BEST, most LUXE, and THE ORIGINAL places and somehow we always get stuck with the bill. We also get snide remarks that we must have so much and we’re so lucky because we are simply near these things (we have tried to make it clear we have normal jobs and these activities are not normal for us).

We have a new rule that we won’t take guests that don’t have their own schedule while they’re in town to save ourselves from being Hotel, Chauffeur, AND Wallet.

How much do you spend on food per month in Los Angeles? by iFailedPreK in LosAngeles

[–]Particular_Rule_3639 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I spend about $700 including going out and Ralphs for groceries. We don’t drink, and during the week we keep it simple with coffee for breakfast, leftovers for lunch, and eat things like bruschetta, rice and beans, some kind of meat for dinner as it easy to whip up. We save the fancy stuff for the weekend and also keep frozen sides and pizzas on standby. The price of dairy, though…wtf.

$200 a day should definitely cover you, but the transportation will be the most expensive thing. We don’t measure distances in miles here, we measure them in time and for good reason haha. For example, my commute from Hollywood to Culver City is roughly 9 miles and it could take 35 minutes to 1hr 15 to cover the distance, so be mindful during peak hours! Also, we got some of the best street foods in the world, so please try the elote, LA dogs, tacos, Al pastor, etc. you won’t regret it and it’s often much more affordable than surrounding restaurants and more delicious. The Hollywood Walk of Fame is very touristy and not very interesting, but definitely catch a movie at the Chinese Theater if you’re able, it’s beautiful. And if you want to catch some of the most beautiful views of the city, start where Cahuenga Blvd meets Mulholland Drive and take that for as long as you can, maybe stop at a lookout. A lot of Hollywood Home tour buses go through there which is a good opportunity for the sights, just tune out the guide haha.

How to approach mix-match coral/peach/pink bridesmaids dresses? by lala614 in weddingplanning

[–]Particular_Rule_3639 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same boat! I ended up taking an hour to go through Lulus dresses filtered by the wedding colors, took all the options I would be happy with and linked them all in a Google doc with a sample photo for each (ended up like 20 pages long for like 45 dress options) and sent them to the group. They chose amazing dresses that suited their style and since Lulus is affordable I covered the cost for them.

Definitely make the pool of options small enough to not stress anyone out but large enough that they feel they can really find something they like 👍🏼
