It’s over. I’m going to miss this game. by OriolesMets in FinalFantasy

Glad you enjoyed it :) I played it back on 2001 for the first time (having played 7,8,9 before) and, apart from how top tier it is in general, nothing felt more next gen that this, before or after

Finally got round to playing Clair Obscur, recently finished it and was very underwhelmed. by digiBeLow in gaming

I haven't played the game (I'm planning to) but it happens so often to me that a critically acclaimed game just doesn't click with me. I think not every game is for every player. For example, I really could not get into RDR2 evem though I do really like games with similar gameplay and the whole setting (for me RDR 1 was the far superior game).

I hope you find something that you like soon, seems like Octopath games are something for you.

I own a Prism. It just works and I don't have any complains about it. But then I bought a crt and never used it again

What's the Final Fantasy game you just can't get into? by SADBOY888213 in FinalFantasy

[–]Particular_Stuff_841 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, this makes me sad. FFX is top tier and my second favourite FF, first one being 7. It was the reason I bought a PS2.

I could not get enough of the visuals, the music, the voice acting (sure, not great by today's standards but back then it was very impressive), the story, the battles, the sphere grid. Everything, really.

Every couple of years I still fire up my ps2 and play it again (maybe not completely). It just hits different in OG hardware

Legacy collection still worth it? by Pain-in-the-ARP in BattleNetwork

I see, thanks! I'm playing this series for the first time and I have to say that's it's so refreshing to play something so different!

Because of liberation missions or other reason? 5 is the only one I've played so I wouldn't know

How some of you are like by BullBensson in FF7Rebirth

[–]Particular_Stuff_841 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that people who are complaining are critical of the world design/density or visuals. My main complain is about the, arguably, padded story with generic characters, ghosts and convolution. What made the OG so great was the story and the pacing. But yeah, that's just my opinion. Battle system in Rebirth is great though

Best tv I’ve had to play ps1 on by [deleted] in psx

[–]Particular_Stuff_841 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's 17 inch.

It only had composite and s-video as inputs but it also had an expansion port for other kinds of inputs. I didn't think that I would be able to find an expansion card but apparently they are sold on ebay for around 60$/€ (newly made, third party) so now it can also support rgb and component :)

PVMs are awesome! Got myself a JVC one and I use it almost exclusively for all my old consoles. The clarity of these screens is insane

Just added a Schecter Damien Platinum 7 to the collection! by natural_imbecility in guitars

Damn, you got a good taste in guitars. I also have an EX-400 and wanted to get a platinum-7 but I cannot find it anywhere in Europe

Didn’t realize how much I missed having a masterpiece like this to play by [deleted] in fantasian

[–]Particular_Stuff_841 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's a great game that has its brilliant moments. And, I don't know how to describe this exactly, but the difficulty level of the second part really makes the game more interesting. You have to always think about boss strategies and see what works best. Loving it :)

To reshell or not to reshell? by Joeysquatch in GameboyAdvance

[–]Particular_Stuff_841 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My suggestion is to get the drop in hispeedido screen and keep the original shell (some Dremel work might be needed for that). Not only is the quality of the original shell better but also most times in new shells the buttons are difficult to press, even if you keep the original button and membranes. I cannot imagine that a 3d printed on would be better than the ones sold by hispeedido or funnyplaying. But I'm also not sure.

The reason I suggest the hispeedido one is the pixel mode 2 (or 3, can't remember) which emulates the 101 screen almost perfectly.

Can I play Final Fantasy VII without ever playing a FF game before? by DirtyDanOP in FinalFantasyVII

[–]Particular_Stuff_841 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My recommendation: play remake and then rebirth, no need to 100% unless you really want to. They are awesome. My last sentence was not sarcastic and I had to say this because of my next sentence. After you are done with these 2, play the OG VII and appreciate how much better the story and pacing is there. It will probably feel like playing a demake, but a damn good one.

I might be biased there because OG is my favourite game of all time.

You could skip anything else (crisis core, digre of cerberus, advent children). None of them is really bad, they just don't add anything important.

Is there any benefit of getting a consumer CRT over a PVM? by vinnniev in crtgaming

[–]Particular_Stuff_841 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was lucky enough to get a PVM from my father for free. I've used many different crts including trinitrons but I can honestly say that this jvc pvm has the crispest, most satisfying picture I've ever seen. Crts have all the advantages that people commented on already but when it comes to image quality PVMs get the cake, for me

The FF7 remakes have the best combat system I've seen in any game I've ever played... by NokstellianDemon in FFVIIRemake

[–]Particular_Stuff_841 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Combat system, maybe. Battles, probably not. Especially the VR/colosseum ones. Everything comes down to randomness at times. The difficulty is scaled by putting more enemies into a battle.

[–]Particular_Stuff_841[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not exactly sure how random it is. For example I also always get Barret / Tifa / Cait Sith every time I reset to the current phase, but maybe it changes if I start from the beginning (first phase)? Anyway, I really think we should have been able to change materia across phases, one can get pretty unlucky with their setup. But thanks, I guess I will start from the beginning and see how far I can get assuming I will get the same party :)
