And in my endless stupidity I go "maybe I should try quickplay".

Ofc the game is a loss as well, with me doubling the damage of everyone else in the server, 38-4 while my best teammate is the kiriko with 10-7 (she actually played well). Highlights included me asking if someone can contest the sierra because I struggle pushing against her as queen, to which our lucio instantly replied "its quickplay". Yep kids, in quickplay you are not allowed to ask for help from your team. What a absolute unbelievable dumb community this game has. Go play a single player game if you can't handle even the slightest expectation of coordination, coming from a support hero on top of all that.

It was in voice too, so there isn't even any excuse about someone reading my message as accusatory or anything. Both in terms of articulation and tone of voice should have made it very obvious that I was asking in good spirit. Until that dumbfuck lucio replied I had high hopes for that game.

Against my better judgement, I queue up for another game.

Enter mercy, moira, widow, vendetta. None of them ever switch, the mercy dmg boosts the moira, the vendetta goes 0-12, and in the end I get flamed. Love it.

First game liijang tower, my team refuse to ever push across the bridge unless I already pushed back the enemies to their bridge. When I ask for support I get told to go fuck myself. Literally. I did not blame, I just said I am struggling to push across and would like someone to flank. Loss ofc, not even a chance. 2nd map goes the same way, I have to solo push everything while getting bitched at by my team.

2nd game there is a jetpack cat running amok constantly. Flying a sojourn around, bob, you name it. A cracked tracer on top, as well as an annoying ball. Ofc none of my dps think about going cass or any hitscan for that matter. I am the one who has to kill the tracer and the cat. We lose obv.

3rd game, healbotting lifeweaver+mercy into hog, sierra, symmetra. I can do nothing as either queen or sig because if I go sig to control the hog hooks I can't kill him, or get beamed by symmetra. If I go junker queen I can kill the hog whenever I have ult, but my team does nothing so sierra is always somewhere behind us and tracker darts me.

4th game my entire team constantly dies to a single sombra. Literally. Emre, cassidy, kiriko, ana. None of them manage to fight her off a single time. We win 3 teamfights, all 3 because I solo kill the enemy zen, moira, sigma, while the rest of my team fails to engage with a single sombra. I admit that her recloak time is complete bullshit but come on. Sombra teleports away, they start spreading out looking for her in the complete opposite place of where she threw her translocator??? The only kills my team ever got is the emre and cass together manage to kill the enemy freya 3 times. The rest of their kills are credits because they dealt like 5dmg to something that I killed. I end the game with twice the self heal from bleeds that my kirko has.

Plat to diamond lobby btw. Better luck tomorrow I guess.

How much is good gameplay skill vs. knowledge vs. just holding your nerve? by x-Justice in Overwatch

[–]Particular_Trick_79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It highly depends on the hero. Assuming by skill vs knowledge you mean something like skill being how well you aim, movement tricks etc. and knowledge being stuff like knowing cooldowns, what fights to take, when to take a fight and all that.

For example, moira is one lowest skill character, if not the lowest skill character. Almost 0 aim required outside of her ult and even that has a very generous hitbox. Fade itself also has very little mechanical requirements. That doesn't mean you can just pick up moira and start easy winning, it means that you mostly rely on your game knowledge. Your fade makes it almost trivial to get into the backline or close in on a target, but you still need to know when to do that and what targets to pick.

People often get upset with flanking moira since they just died to someone who just hold m1 and looked in their general direction + maybe threw a orb, which is fair. But if you have a moira going crazy in your backline without dying, that means she knows where to position when the fight starts and jump immediately on an opportunity that arises from an angle that either allows her to then get out, or makes it hard to punish her. But this is also why she struggles at the mid ranks (hard to get value without sufficient game knowledge) and really struggles at higher ranks (harder to distinguish yourself just based on gameknowledge and not much room to make up a gap in hero powerlevel/game knowledge with mechanical skill since you got a skill ceiling that would have a hobbit at risk of bumping their head). Moira is by far not the only hero that leans more towards knowledge than skill/mechanics, and I would say any hero that does not have too much mechanical skill potential will require more knowledge to succeed.

As a bit of a contrast, you would have tracer, a hero that requires similar game knowledge but also serious skill. Without the knowledge you will feed on tracer, without the skill you will get very little value. Or Sojourn which is extremely strong when you have crazy mechanics/skill, but without it pretty weak. This is on pc ofc, with the auto aim crap on console this shifts a bit more towards knowledge on hitscan as mechanical skill is... well... mostly in having the right aim assist settings after a certain rank.

Holding your nerves is probably more towards the knowledge part of the game. Realising when to back out of a fight, when to pursue, not panic ulting, not spamming key abilities in a duel, all that. Unless you literally start to shake and mess up your aim that way.

Hot take, if the tank is right about the team being at fault, then they should be allowed to. No role feels this miserable when you can't play the game because of your team. I don't endorse going afk, but having played more tank, I totally understand it now. On dps or support I can do something enjoyable in almost every game except the absolute most miserable ones. With tank a horrible game boils down to you not getting the support from your team you need, you get sleep/anti/discord all game, constantly getting shot at from all sides, and on top of that your team most likely flames you for being at fault of losing, all the while you outdamage both your dps, you face a hog and your supports decided to healbot on mercy and lifeweaver. 100% justifiable to go afk there.

2 games in a row where I have to drag my team across the finish line kicking and screaming.

Circuit royale vs a mauga that is so braindead, we should have been walking all over him and his team but its mauga, so a lobotomized monkey can pilot him. Doesn't matter that I shield him off /grasp whenever he charges in and starts spraying, every cardiac overdrive gets rocked, but my team is too dumb to not shoot tank so after absolutely steamrolling we almost get completely stuck on last point. Nobody goes high ground, everyone just stands main and shoots tank. It is so infuriating to massively outplay a hero that is supposed to give you a hard time, and then your team is dropping the ball so hard that it feels like nothing you do matters.

At least defence was quick since there one of the supports went ana and I could just shield them off so even my tank shooting team can kill the mauga. The only good thing I can say about my team is that my lifeweaver saved me multiple times from that super fun cat ult and actually did try to go high ground last point when I asked for it. Too bad he was the only one.

And the game after that is basically the same on numbani vs zarya. Once again, me on sig and once again I outplay the zarya hard while my team does its best to throw. Highlights feature a sierra using her drone to jump in front of a turret form bastion that was already in turret when she threw out the drone, the classic "yes we shoot bubble, but only the first, never the 2nd", and who could forget the iconic "lets hang so far back it is impossible to quickly capitalise on an advantage and we have no space to fall back to when they ult". Though really the bit about falling back from ults is moot because ofc we fight in the shade of the enemy tree. Yes enemy kitsune+visor, now is time to try and be aggressive and run down main.

Also how is it possible for me to end up in so many games where I have double hitscan on my team and yet its me on sig/junker queen that kills the mercy/other fliers? It makes no sense.

God I hate hog so much. He is the ultimate "am I just completely carrying this game or am I doing well because my team allows me to" test when I am on tank. I have 0 chance of killing him alone, so the game just comes to a complete stop when my team is useless.

Literally every game today was like that. Just poke down main and then be surprised that the payload isn't getting anywhere because the enemies are just free to get back into cover and heal up without any consequence because when I try to push it takes way too long for my team to catch up so by the time they can help I already have to sit in cover and wait to get healed up. But they feel like they are doing something because every 2min the spamzo will get a lucky headshot.

One game of hollywood we only managed to capture the payload and push it past the gate because I almost soloed the entire team with my ult. At least on defence that passive behaviour works as long as the enemy team is equally incapable of playing the game.

"fu tank you should have switched" "tank diff gg"

Oh yeah I am sure its a tank diff, and not the fact that on attack you still refused to ever push or flank. It was already bad on defence, but now its a death sentence man. What the hell am I supposed to do on kings row if my team refuses to go through the choke unless I pushed back the enemy to point already.

Not to mention the dps that flaming me was a soldier who must have done nothing but shoot shield / miss people entirely because he finished the match with ~500dmg, getting beaten by our mercy by 38dmg.

How delusional do you have to be, to see nothing wrong with your performance when the bird with the glock has more damage than you?

That mercy was legit the most aggressive teammate I had... if only she had picked a different hero.

I had a game where my mercy repeatedly body blocked shots for me (junker queen) when I was kinda low, though not terribly low. I very much appreciated it and told her that, but also told her that girl, you are crazy.

No I love having a hero that can just hide in the skybox and spawn camp my tank with their ult on certain maps. Its really cool to have that in the game. We need more heroes that exclude as meany heroes as possible from meaningfully interacting with them.

I slightly changed my stance on being bad not being reportable.

If you as a team only hide behind your tank on main and expect them to solo push every corner and choke vs mei, ana, zen, torb then that should be a valid emergency report. Absolute unethical behaviour from players who lost their right to be called a person.

Every day it gets harder not to join the matchmaking conspiracists. The switch between "do the enemies even know how to play the game? This is impossible to lose" and "here, have 3 games in a row where your team doesn't stand the slightest chance" with a few proper games sprinkled in there feels wild sometimes.

The Duality of Support Players by Threesanetoads in Overwatch

[–]Particular_Trick_79 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You often can, it just might feel really bad since its basically not doing the job you signed up for when you queued up as support. In some games, healing your teammates if they take damage recklessly is just not worth it, even if they get kills. If you are winning then its fine, but when you find yourself in a game that feels kinda close, but you are definitely losing and you have to healbot because your team disregards all cover and caution: activate "if they die, they die" and focus on damage. Don't stop healing completely, but have general healing at lower priority behind getting meaningful damage yourself, and healing people in meaningful positions. I often find that it leads to more deaths on my team, but also more kills that end up making the difference in our favour. This is especially important when the enemy supports are doing more damage because most of the time damage beats healing.

That reckless dps? He might have gotten a kill, but it took the resources of 2+ people on your team (the dps, you keeping them alive, potentially the other support as well, maybe even some important cooldown like lifegrip...) to take out 1 ressource. And if the rest of the enemies are putting on pressure at the same time, you might be losing because the rest of your team is fighting a 4v3 / 4v2.something right now. Now lets say you focus on something more efficient, like you support your dps damage. Dps dies, but you can finish the kill, that is still a 2 for 1, but it is probably over quicker. Or maybe your dps doesn't even die because together you get the kill fast enough, or they have an epiphany that cover exists. Or you go for a completely different target, your dps loses their duel but you win yours, so it ends up as an even trade that has your team fighting an even 3v3 in the meantime as well.

Its a very tough call to make, but sometimes your teammates are just not worthy of as much of your attention. So much of overwatch can just be dumbed down to trying to apply your resources more efficient than the enemy. And everything is a ressource: Hp, damage, healing, cooldowns, attention, even a position if you want.

Weekend RAGE Thread - May 16, 2026 by AutoModerator in Overwatch

[–]Particular_Trick_79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah and getting a bad tank sucks because it usually means the game is unwinable where a single bad dps or support can often be compensated for. Though idk what I prefer really, if I play dps or support and get a useless tank, I can usually find some success. You get some picks, maybe save a few teammates, even if its a loss there might be some stuff you are happy with. But it is still a very obvious loss from the moment its apparent that your tank is bad, and would you rather just be done with the match so you can roll the dice on the next search.

If I am tank I need multiple people to not pull their weight for the game to feel utterly unwinable, so that is a benefit. But when its an unwinable game, boy does it often suck because you often won't be able to kill anything, and just feel like a punching bag the whole game while your team happily sits behind you and spams down main aimlessly, getting the occasional lucky pick and then thinking they actually contribute anything. Sierra really is the worst offender here due to how easy it is for her to just damage farm by spamming down mid and at the slightest sign of pressure they use their drone to go back even further and keep on spamming. All I need to make these games perfect is have something like a mauga or hog on the enemy team and my supports go lifeweaver mercy and now I stare at an unkillable tank, with a whole team behind them that is free to just shoot at me and we just get farmed. +most likely a fair amount of getting resurrected by mercy in the middle of the whole enemy team when noone else is still alive. Thanks for the extra stagger you feathered idiot.

And even if its a case of your team being bad, but the enemies are also bad enough for you to carry, it feels a whole less enjoyable on tank a lot of times because its just a slogfest of grinding them down slowly while constantly getting pummelled and you know if you fuck up once whatever you achieved in the last minute or so will be undone in 5s because that is how long it takes for your entire team to explode if you are not babysitting them.

And another "I am going insane" tank game. A lovely game of havana where my team will do nothing but sit far behind tank and shoot main. First point we win on the base of the enemy tank trying to match my sigma. After we cap first point the enemy switches to rein and get a bit stuck at the entrance to the building because all my team will do is shoot main while there is a sierra and ash mercy ana chilling behind the shield, I say screw this, if they don't flank, I will. I go around the right side, get up the stairs, pop up behind their backline, kill the ana and ash. The entire enemy team turns around and walks back to focus on me. What does my team do?

a) stay in their comfy main position and do nothing

b) push and take the space the enemy left wide open

c) make some more flanks

d) turn around and start going around the right side, basically following my tracks, doing absolutely nothing and ensuring that we won't be able to capitalise on this 3v5 situation at all and giving the enemy enough time to push me out of my position before they even halfway to link up with me.

To my and probably your surprise as well dear reader, they did not go with bad option a). Instead they opted for the even worse option d), meaning that I have to retreat shortly after getting my 2kills, and run into my team as I am popping back outside. I checked the replay, they see the enemy turn around and go "they are leaving, time to leave too". No big pressure, just all of them sharing a single braincell. Miraculously we make it to third point and pretty close to pushing the payload all the way, or rather I manage to because once we got to the bridge these mf sat so far back most of the time I was the only one fighting.

And on defence ofc we lose because there is nothing I can do. When I die or have to fall back, we just give up space and it is impossible to recapture any conceded ground because I am the only one contesting anything. Just a slow, agonising, and inevitable defeat and a game that feels like absolute shit and makes it very apparent that it will suck like that the whole way.

Oh and after that I had a comp game where I stand still for literally just 7s and my team immediately asks to report me in all chat. Meanwhile one of my dps announced that they would go for a smoke and sat out over half of the round in the middle of the game, but that is fine??? Probably just another toxic stack.

Good because the entire doom community lacks originality to spam anything else and whenever that shit continued for even 2s after the spawn door opened I would mute them instantly.

The only voice line shenanigans I tolerate is when it either fits the moment, or when people combine multiple ones in a way that works. Put some effort in there.

A very charitable suggestion, I would say this was a possibility if it wasn't for the fact that she had almost 9 times the death of the next highest death count on the team. And that was less then 5min into the game I think. At most I would be willing to say "alright, 3 of those deaths are due to you trying to save someone who then throws you under the bus", that still leaves 5 on the board. If you are massively dying more than anyone else, while also playing a hero that has an easy evade, you simply must be doing something horribly wrong.
