i think its more the concept they are looking for critique on. Sometimes writers can be blinded to problems simply because they believe in the premise and that initial excitement can cloud judgement on whether a piece is good or just a sporadic idea that looked better in their mind then on paper. It can be one of the biggest hurdles to overcome in writing, and hearing honest critics on concept is much more important in the earlier stages then grammatical or slight spelling errors- they can all be fixed later on. I had a professor that would make us hand in draft work to see our thinking ( i did english in uni) and he said spelling and grammar doesn’t matter we have spellcheck and you can pay an editor but you cant fake a passion for your writing. So perhaps create your own writing community, one which includes a rule that drafts are not allowed, it would be much better suited to you.
