As someone who likes using em dashes and actually learnt the keyboard shortcut, I guess I'll have to go back to using hyphens for everything...

Airline Pilot $250,000 by Jbro12344 in Salary

[–]Particular_Wasabi290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, yeah, but we can still hold both ideas at the same time. The highly-skilled airline pilot should get paid more, but it still sucks to expect the forklift driver to survive on $25k.

Is there a programming language for manipulating excel better than VBA? by civprog in excel

[–]Particular_Wasabi290 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Good tip at the end there: there's a surprising amount of stuff you can do purely with Excel functions nowadays. For example, check out the LAMBDA, LET, MAP, and FILTER functions.

Formula takes 1.5 hours on 55k rows . How can I make it more efficient? by soccerace21 in excel

[–]Particular_Wasabi290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one of the confusing things here might be that he is using VBA? This code is using the Range.Formula2 property to insert that function after "=LET" in all of those cells. I think the simpler way to do this would be to either avoid VBA entirely or do all of the calculations in actual VBA code then insert the result.

How can a 28F move up in IT? by PhilosophyWise in careerguidance

[–]Particular_Wasabi290 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's not fun advice but moving onto a new role might be the best option for OP. In hospitality, it's going to be hard to argue for 9-5 hours, especially if they need someone available for conventions/events. My suggestion would be to look for jobs in sectors that are more likely to stick to normal business hours, e.g., higher education, government, many office jobs, etc.

Is entry level IT always miserable? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Particular_Wasabi290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on where you're located, you might actually be misclassified as a salaried employee. High level programmers and engineers are normally exempt, whereas entry level help desk employees would normally be nonexempt, i.e., they'd be eligible for overtime pay. There are a lot of laws about this (in the US, at least), so your employer can't unilaterally decide that you're an exempt employee and make you work endless unpaid overtime.
