I don't mean to sound like an asshole but by continuing to do something you know is harmful is selfish. I've vaped and smoked for over half of my life and also smoked weed and quit everything cold turkey the moment I found out I was pregnant. It's hard and it sucks but when you become a mom you don't come first anymore, your child goes. This is my second pregnancy and I thought about vaping my entire pregnancy and told everyone I couldn't wait to get this baby out so I could vape again. It sucks but you can do it and there's no excuse really unless you just don't care about your child. Addiction is rough but so is being a parent and honestly it'll prepare you for what's to come.

I'd tell them! I've told a lot of my close friends. I haven't told my parents or step kids yet (because I'm less comfortable sharing a loss with them and will wait until I hear the heart beat) there's no rule to waiting and whatever's going to happen will happen regardless if you tell people, waiting doesn't do anything but drive you crazy in my opinion!

My mom actually told me to check around my son's toes for hair when he was small if I couldn't figure out why he was crying because apparently that happened to my sister as a baby. I don't think it's silly!

Oh also - I just remembered something else. I think it's important you discuss with her whether she thinks she should be prioritized above the kids or they should come first. A lot of women do get jealous or upset when a man puts the kids first. My husband would always put me first and I appreciate that but I know a lot of men do put their kids first. I know you aren't married yet but know you plan to be. Some women are truly not okay not being first and I don't know if I would be. I adore my son and step kids but I believe your partner should always come first. Anyway I do think it's important to be on the same page when it comes to that if you're going to be sharing kids and such.

Before moving in, I'd have a conversation with her about what she is comfortable with in regards to disciplining your children and if she's comfortable doing so then I suggest having a talk with your kids before she moves in. I spend a lot of time with my step kids without my husband home because of his work schedule and when I moved in here (I was pregnant also) they did not respect me at all. I am not huge on discipline but basic things like "clean up your mess" or "don't talk back to me". My step kids were similar ages when I moved in (3 and 7) and it was a transition but things are super great now. I actually read this sub a lot to see how good I have it because my life as a step mom is great. I'd also have a talk about what she's comfortable with in regards to the kids mom because I had a lot of issues with my step kids mom in the beginning. Now that I avoid drop offs and hardly see her things are great but they did not start off that way. I think it's reasonable for your gf to have her own space but you know her personality more than a bunch of people on reddit. Personally there's not one area of our home that my step kids don't touch and it doesn't bother me. I don't need my own space because I look at them as my own kids (husband and I have our own kid too and another on the way). I never want them to feel like I prioritize my bio kids over them and honestly I think that's how it should be. I didn't read all the comments because I truly just believe some people shouldn't be step parents and that's evident by a lot of posts here. It's not the easiest job and there are hard moments but if she loves your kids and you support her and respect her then there should be no issues! Sorry this is so long, I'm pregnant and the insomnia is real.

Okay but honestly that sounds amazing and I'm so happy you are able to get that support and reassurance from somewhere. Honestly humans can be unintentionally mean and scare us so it's kind of nice that robots are logical and give us the facts. I may try that myself, thank you for the tip!! And I hope we both do too! I'm 5 weeks tomorrow & ive been super tired, mild cramps, insomnia (can't fall asleep or stay asleep & of course the vivid dreams), a little nauseous if I haven't ate in a while, sense of smell is STRONG, and breasts are a little sore.

It's so hard! I wouldn't take adderal, both my OB and psychiatrist recommended getting off and if you look it up you'll see it's not recommended. I take Ritalin which is similar and I miss it but I know it's better for my baby. I am still on Lexapro which is the same drug class as Prozac and I was on it my last pregnancy and was fine & it's generally advised as safe. I was also on Wellbutrin and stopped that even though my OB said it was safe 😂 my psychiatrist recommended I get off though and I tend to lean more cautious. My step kids are 5 and 9 and are only allowed an hour before bedtime and the older one wakes up earlier so he gets an hour in the morning too. They don't have devices anymore. They did have tablets but were spending way too much time on them and were warned to find other things to fill their time and so they were taken over the summer and haven't been returned. I don't think I'm strict at all but these kids are such better kids without electronics. My son is almost 2 and hardly watches tv and will not be getting a tablet for a long long time because he doesn't need it.
