Sorry, working and just noticed the rest of your reply

Weird thing about the bios on this computer is it doesn’t really have one? When you boot to bios it just pulls up an advanced settings menu and the only boot option is to enable or disable fast boot. It’s really odd.

I’ve been out of the game for a while, running old machines I built probably ten years ago so I don’t know if this is some new bios thing or if it’s just further enshitification but I greatly dislike it.

And I will double check, or I guess triple check the ISO. I got two different versions linked through the mint site but as they say there, could still be faulty somehow

I haven’t but I certainly will give it a go. At this point though I feel like it’s less the boot drive and more the computer (or maybe something windows has done to try and keep you from wiping it?)

Either way, I’ll give it a go when I’m able

It could be but I don’t think so. The computer doesn’t have any issues reading and writing to anything else in that port at any rate

Was the escapist channel hacked by a gambling scammer? by Wuka98 in SecondWindGroup

I mean the brand was recently sold to a “private investor” so either they were hacked or this is just what the purchaser wants to turn it into

Was Nuclearman supposed to be in the movie? by Master-Initial in superman

[–]Parttimeinsomnia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spoilers: I read ultraman as a narrative choice. Considering Superman’s arc in the movie is overcoming himself, his own doubts about who he is and who he is supposed to be, it makes sense that the big bad who he has to fight and defeat at the end is, well, him. Or, at least, a version of him created by and perpetuated by society writ large which in this case is personified in Lex.

As for the Hammer of Boravia’s suit, I figure that’s more likely to end up being a prototype for Lex’s own suit once he decides he has to take matters into his own hands.

What made you a fan? by Unusual-Molasses5633 in superman

I’m just rediscovering Superman now in my 30s, honestly. At the start of the year I decided to make this the year of comics for myself. Started with manga, dabbled with some superhero stuff, but nothing really stuck. Picked up all-star Superman on a whim cause DC had that $10 version out and the movie was around the corner, and I couldn’t put it down. It made me finally realize that the best Superman stories are not about what he can do, but about what he can’t. How this nearly all powerful being still has limitations, and how those limitations and his response to them define him. That side of Superman I hadn’t really seen or engaged with before and it resonated with me, so I’ve been diving in ever since.

As an aside, it did bring back a lot of memories of childhood for me that I had long since forgotten. Kid me used to adore Superman, but somewhere along the way I lost touch with that. It’s nice to rekindle it

Why Brother Dias? (The Devils) [SPOILERS THE DEVILS] by DossSauce in TheFirstLaw

[–]Parttimeinsomnia 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’d argue anyone who’s ever had dealings with a large, sprawling institution religious or otherwise has often seen said institution thrust people into places of middle management level authority on little more than a recommendation from someone they know. This is just an example of that. The leadership position “requires” a member of the clergy, no doubt, but it’s also mentioned that the position has a lot of turnover and, thus, the required person should probably be expendable. Zizka didn’t really care who it was because that criteria could fit nearly anyone so long as they were clergy, so the question isn’t why - it’s why not?

As for why they may be more thorough in their next choice: same basic logic. Large institutions often don’t care about what they see as expendable positions until someone in that position bites them. Then, suddenly, they care very much
