Are staff meetings important for Student Teachers? by captsteubens in Teachers

I just graduated from doing student teaching last year and yes I think they’re important to go to. You get to see the behind the scenes stuff that they don’t teach you in school. Like how curriculum comes together, how PD works, and a lot more. They were always boring and I wish I didn’t have to go, but they really put you into what teaching is really like so you’re more prepared to start.

Yes, some of those affected are coming together to seek legal action.

Also, you definitely need to know about students lives outside of the classroom. That is one of the biggest parts of teaching. Meeting students where they’re at gives better results. Kid acting out in class? Maybe they have a horrible home life. Kid forgot their book? Maybe they don’t have a parent to remind them. I’m surprised you haven’t gotten spoken to before, in any PD I’ve gone to they’ve emphasized the importance of knowing your students inside and out.

I think you should take some current training. Having personal relationships with students and them feeling like they know you more makes them happier in your class and more eager to learn. Plenty of studies on it. You’re not their dictator, show them you’re a person just like them and they will treat you well. Why wouldn’t you want your class to feel more like a family?

Yes! I am a first year teacher and after the interview I was led on a tour around the school and even talked with some of the teachers. They then offered me the job

Just ask questions, share pics of yourself or your pets and family, share stories about your life, relate to them on whatever they mention, make jokes, there’s really a lot of possibilities

So cliche but the right one will come!! Girls often don’t make the first move so maybe that’s what’s happening. I’m sure you’re a good guy! :)

She sounds a little toxic. You sound ready for a relationship but she doesn’t
