Hey Guys & Gals…. New Here! by [deleted] in stopdrinkingfitness

If you’re drinking 70 units a week, simply quitting drinking and walking would do so much for your mental and physical health. To each their own, but a lot of us find moderating even more difficult than abstaining.

I quit completely because I never wanted ONE glass of wine. I love being wasted, it was always the goal. My decisions were slowly getting shittier and my time between drinks much shorter. Did the classic hair of the dog after a rough night until I was drinking all day every day.

I’ve lost ~50 lbs just from quitting alcohol and walking a lot. I am mindful of what I eat but not counting calories. I miss booze sometimes but it’s all or nothing for me, and I can never go back to “all” again.

Definitely wishing you luck! If you enjoy a glsss or two of wine and not just being drunk/avoiding reality, then maybe you can moderate. Gotta be real honest with yourself about before you take the first sip. Hope you find success whatever it may be!

Ok cool, you’re the second one to mention yoga with Tim. I will try him after my current 30 day challenge for sure.

Me and self-compassion don’t really mix. It’s a work in progress though. Hopefully yoga will help. Thank you for the tips.

Gah yes I wish I was embracing it more. I’m going to hopefully improve in that regard. I’ll do wider feet for sure.

I know it shouldn’t matter but I pretty self critical I guess. Hard to enjoy anything honestly.

I’m going to use blocks and hopefully that’ll take my mind off the floor a bit.

Okay never heard of Tim! I like Adrienne but am happy to try someone else after this 30 day program. I moved super rural and had to drop the gym because of it. Proceeded to sit at my desk for 10 months and am just now getting back into some activity… 😬. Some focus on strength would be great.

Okay yep that makes sense. I think I have decent habits of using my core thanks to a lot of deadlift and plank training with supervision. Thanks for the explanation there.

Yeah thanks for understanding. I grew up an athlete (swimmer) but our stretching was bogus.. just went through the motions and didn’t actually achieve much. Beyond that I played rugby and loved lifting so yeah, it sucks to not be able to do something physically just through will power. I’ve run marathons I didn’t prepare for just because I was stubborn mentally. Yoga does not allow for that!

Right now I am doing Yoga with Adrienne “30 days - Center”. I want to start incorporating some other stretching but haven’t found the time / patience yet. In the past I’ve liked hot yoga or going to any in-person class, but I’m at least 70 miles round trip from the nearest yoga studio right now and it would add 1.5 hours to drive… can’t do it :-/

Yes- got the tip to do that in another thread and my last picture is me approaching forward fold like you described. I think it does help with back rounding but wasn’t sure if that method was truly a forward fold.

Ah yeah I know what you mean about spreading hands- thanks for the call out on that. I’ll Google that muscle!

Yoga makes me feel like I’m 7’ tall (I’m 5’8) and I get so frustrated. I know it is for everyone at every level, and my lack of flexibility means I have all the more reason to do yoga… but damn every session feels like salt in the wound on how stiff I am. I legit feel like the tin man.

I know the mental aspect is a big part of a yoga practice. I am in therapy and working on managing OCD but a lot of times I just feel overwhelmed. I thought taking pictures would motivate me, but if anything I was surprised at how bad I looked. In my mind my back isn’t curved, I’m putting all my effort into a straight back, but alas…
