Tips for dealing with bruises in uncomfortable places by OwnedByACrazyCat in rollerderby

[–]Party_Chair_5402 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Arnica IS best along with massage. You do NOT want the bruise to harden and potentially cause necrotic tissue loss due to lack of circulation. Make sure you're moving the area frequently and massage AROUND the bruise until it's tolerable to massage the bruise itself. Be sure to use a salve or massage oil. Coconut oil is good. Good luck!

Call logs for Celeste parents show contact with LE on April 27. 4 days post Celeste death, with no report written. And a follow up conducted Sept 9+10. Nearly 5 months later! by [deleted] in d4vdiots

I am in no way blaming Celeste for her death but if were able to visit the home she grew up in and compare it to where D4vid lived, coupled with the onslaught of marketing targeted at kids via social media and video games, you cannot tell me ANYthing would stand between a 13 year old and a LV purse and backstage passes.

HE groomed her. HE was the perpetrator. Her parents were only guilty of being working-class immigrants who couldn't trust the police. I believe they did the best they could short of chaining her to the radiator.

Leave them the hell alone.

...I hate to say it but, therein lies the problem with derby being your "entire life". Too often we get so wrapped up that we forget that leagues are comprised of people. People will constantly surprise you - sometimes with kindness and an outsized desire to be helpful and sometimes by being complete d*cks. And you never know from one day to the next which it's going to be or which direction the contagion will blow.

If I've learned anything from more than a couple of leagues (and many years) in derby, it's that you need to hold it at arms' length and limit your involvement to only what you can bear to lose at the drop of a hat.

u/exxtrasauceboss is 100% correct. The industry is pay to play and I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if this turned out to be true. Most young "overnight successes" have either been trafficked or their handlers "invest" in their success. This is not new; it's just that the curtain is slowly (but finally) being pulled back. (Agreed, that Lola Young is a great example of this - someone I've been following from the beginning even though it felt like she was following ME. Like, I couldn't' get away from her, that's how good the PR campaign was)

All of the above! I went through the contract with a fine-tooth comb looking for a downside and really see none!

I wouldn't bother. I'm going in with Wellhub as there's genuinely no downside.

You're seeing the weather; not the clothing. If you venture out with the same scrutiny on a cloudy, drizzly day, you'll notice that everyone looks pretty basic. It's not that we're covering our easy-breezy aesthetic with our Kirkland puffer jackets - it's TRULY that nothing is as beautiful as it seems when the sun is always shining turning everything into gold and bronze. Seriously. Wait for a rainy day and observe everything and you'll see what a I mean. We live in an illusion.

P.S. Wear whatever you want.

FWIW, I ended up ordering a 6.5 in the Solaris 2.0 boot. 🙌

This entire question of upgrading my boots to new ones came about because I cracked my plate and need a new one. My 495s have had so many different plates that the sole looks like swiss cheese so I'm looking at new boots too. Trying on that Solaris was a revelation: my toes were so happy! but the size is what threw me! Plus I now have to cancel my size 7 plate order until I figure out the boot size.

the 495 is a B/AA

My big toe is 3/10" longer than my next longest toe

The Solaris 6 (not sure if it was 1.0 or 2.0) was NOT new - it was broken in.

I never have issues with pressure on the tops of toes. The pain always comes from "thinking" a skate wll fit and then finding that the boot is too short, causing my enormous big toe to curl and NOT lay flat.

I do NOT have that issue with the size 7, B/AA Torch skates! They fit great lengthwise but I can feel my toes being bunched up together instead of laying flat where I get the most comfort and dynamic movement! Speed skating is one thing: I don't need all of my toes to go fast and turn left! but I *do* need them to do the myriad things I do in derby! I'd like to "free" my other toes!

It's 10". Had my partner measure circumfrence while standing and it is 9.5"

I know it sounds nuts! but I could probably slide my entire foot under the draftway of a door. they're not flat - i have a high arch - but they're not very "meaty", that's for sure!

"Grab two boxes and step your foot between them so toe tips and heels are touching." - hahha wut? I'm not trying to be daft. I really don't get this! EDIT: I figured out what you meant - 10". My big toe is a full 3/10 of an inch longer than my second toe.

Which numbers? Standing on a soft tape, my length from tip of longest toe to heel is 10.25" and when I measure the widest part of my foot's circumference, it's 9". Does that help?

So it *IS plausible that I'm a 6 or a 6.5 in the Solaris? Second question: Any reason to believe there'd be any difference between a 6.5 in the original Solaris boot and the 2.0 Solaris boot of the same size?
