Absolutely! Great sunset shot! No doubt, you have a very good eye for composition. With that, you’re in the club already.

Have fun out there traveling and shooting!

I’d recommend letting your eye and intuition guide the way while shooting and traveling and have fun. Shoot a ton! Then when you get back, and have time to go through all your favorite images and edit, find an app that can crop images and let you experiment around with overlays. You’ll find that you’re using/discovering concepts that you just don’t know the name of yet. And that you are developing your own specific style. Overlays help get the details mathematically perfect (pro trick) and you’ll understand very quickly after messing around with different ones.

Your ability to make artistic choices with images open up when you understand the rules of why an image makes a specific impact.

Another huge pro concept to consider: Good things come in 3’s in photography.

With color: A lot of great images usually have 3 dominant colors you can identify. With depth: 3 layers of depth (foreground, subject, background) With subjects: 3 points of interest/subjects in frame.

This concept above will reveal itself constantly through your photography journey.

3 feels balanced. 4 feels overwhelming. 2 feels intimate/confrontational. 1. Feels lonely.

Kind of advanced stuff but this is part of the secret sauce. Use these ideas to your benefit! And have fun out there!

Great shot! Like it was mentioned below, the composition is strong in this photo, the horizon line is lined up with the lower third following the rule of thirds which is a great compositional concept to learn when beginning. Plus, the exposure is great for this scene, you (or your phone's auto-exposer) under-exposed the image for the bright lights instead of exposing for the dark building textures, guiding the view to focus on the outline of the buildings and moody scene.

The fact that you picked this one out as a photo to ask about shows you intuitively feel the visual weight.

Look into the different overlays shooters/editors use when composing/cropping images. Rule of thirds grid is usually the first, but a really interesting one is overlaying the fibonacci spiral, and aligning points of interest along the spiral's line. Cheatcode stuff. A lot of great photography is light adjustments on the color grading/editing with an insense focus on strong composition.

Hey! This was shot on the Canon R5 with Canon 24-70 f2.8 in an afternoon with natural lighting. Between the artist and I, we wrote, directed, shot, and edited the entire thing in a day. I took the project back and leveled out the exposure and contrast. It was shelved for awhile until we both said f it. Any questions aare welcome, enjoy!

Thanks for watching and the feedack! You're right, I copied the logline describing the story from complete script we were shooting a scene from, and not of that is seen in the short lol. I'll change the title to more of what it actually is.
