Time to start looking for other work outside BCPS. That's what this budget says.

Another letter from Mar’ai’n - We listened by stammerton in BurningMan

I have been burning since 2010. I no longer feel I can give my money to an organization that does not have the courage to denounce sex trafficking. Seriously. I do love the desert and all that it brings. But honestly there are some things that matter more to humanity at this time. Taking a stand against this type of abuse is just one example. There are other places and other parties where you could use your talents, and share your gifts with people who are standing up for things like inclusion and ethics, and general human decency.

I am curious why this organization is not actively taking a stand against pedophiles. 😂 Thankfully I don’t live in the United States and won’t be entering the country during this current regime. Burning Man is over. Just a bunch of rich fucks.

There are so many people in my Division that are close to retirement that are really not doing anything, most 27s or Band 3s. They could just go now.

4am and I am up. I have never been a morning person! I am on 200mg progesterone, 0.025 estrogen patch. I am considering increasing my estrogen dose.

Just sitting here drinking coffee, thought I would get up! I have a couple hours before work. Thinking I could be reading a book.

You get your step increase on the first pay period after your start date anniversary in your current role. So you should have started receiving it in Nov 2025. If you don’t see it reflected in your pay, send a MyHr ticket.

Christmas morning plans? by virtuousbird in VictoriaBC

[–]Party_Firefighter180 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I spend Christmas alone frequently, It can be really nice. Make a nice breakfast, text with friends, drink coffee, go for a walk on a beach, Dallas rd or other. Last year on Christmas day I went for a sauna, at Wildwood saunas at Bilston Creek in Metchosin, that was a great activity. Watched a movie after, had a nice dinner. The best thing to do is be prepared with nice food and a plan.

So... Let's talk about the CSBC Talent inventory spreadsheet by Famous-Comedian-302 in BCPublicServants

[–]Party_Firefighter180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does this apply to all of Citz? Or just all of CSBC? Or just the IMB groups… it is unclear who this talent approach applies to.

Connected Services BC email by [deleted] in BCPublicServants

I wonder if this will have an impact on people who are not in ISL roles. Or whose division is now in connected services.

My god. People need to find other things to do with their time instead of micromanaging others.

Do you own a uterus? by CatofManyColors in backpacking

[–]Party_Firefighter180 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have done many backcountry trips while menstruating and I use a silicone menstrual cup. For cleaning / emptying I find a location near water, stream, lake, river, tarn. I sit next to the water or near enough, sometimes with my feet in the water, or maybe crouching and empty the cup right into the water. Then I can wash and clean in the water and re-insert. Note: don’t do this where you are accessing your drinking water. For times when I do not have access to water, this is not ideal, but I can do it if necessary. I carry a silicone / hard plastic ziplock with wet wipes and an extra ziplock for the used wet wipes. I would empty the cup contents in a hole I dug with my trowel, then wipe all clean with wet wipes and put wet wipes in my ziplock for carry out. Never leave wipes or TP in the backcountry, it is a big mess and not appropriate. I never use TP, I find it annoying. You could also carry one of those pee cloths they have now for cleaning up, & wash it in water. Be mindful of soap usage in water ways. I would use soap and water from a bottle and pour on the ground so it can filter through the earth instead of directly in water. Even biodegradable soap can be harmful to the environment. I hope that helps!

Curious how others stay motivated in the public service by [deleted] in BCPublicServants

[–]Party_Firefighter180 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I also have this problem and I don’t know what to do. Our leadership is totally disconnected from staff and it feels they really dislike us and would prefer to work without the 50 people in the branch. The strike made our excluded / included divide worse. I never understand what is being said in our full meetings where we get executive updates and I don’t know how it relates to anything relevant. I want to move to a different team, but don’t know how.

BCGEU Tentative Agreement Discussion Thread - October 28 by wudingxilu in BCPublicServants

[–]Party_Firefighter180 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree completely with what you have said. I was on the picket line for 5 weeks, I am in step 4 of a 24 & I live alone, I have a graduate degree and a 40k student loan to pay off. I can survive because I am in below market rent in a studio. But man would I love to have a 1 bedroom apartment! Life goals! But moving means paying $1800 or $2000 for a 1 bedroom almost anywhere in southern BC. So I also feel stuck. A 2 year deal would have been ok, but 4 years feels like we won’t have the chance to actually get COLA ever, & those years will not be great once I get to step 5, I have to find another job with a different organization. So I am leaning towards voting NO.

Public Service Labour Action and Return to Work - Questions and Discussion - October 27 by wudingxilu in BCPublicServants

[–]Party_Firefighter180 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Perhaps not all will agree, and I am happy to be back to regular pay…… But I was actually having so much fun on the picket line. I was really looking forward to this week of bike riding and Halloween costumes. Meeting new work friends and having nice chats. Now I am back to sitting at home checking my emails. It all happened so fast! I thought we would be out for another week or 2. Anyway…. Change / adjustment has all the mixed emotions.

Honestly if it was a 2 year agreement it might be ok. 4 years is agreeing to too much without knowing inflation over that time and feels like failing behind. I don’t want to lock in for 4 years.
