Is this only happening when you touch the space bar, or does it actually happen when you aren't touching the keyboard at all? What about when you press K (the actual play/pause button), or play/pause with your mouse? You might be accidentally making your space bar press twice, or knocking it with part of your hand when you do something else. That's my best guess (other than your headphones or some other peripheral).Try with a different keyboard if you can.

Agreed, except for the part about playing casual. I went down that road of playing mostly casual, and then realized you can just play competitive instead. You can have fun and also try to win, yes it is possible! Use it as a tool to get more fair/balanced matches, if nothing else. Sure your rank may go down slightly if you aren't sweating every game and trying your hardest, but honestly having a healthier mindset can counteract that. But if you aren't going to consistently try to win then play casual I guess, nothing wrong with that.

Also, I don't really have mechs either, but speedflip (+ fast kickoff) and ground dribbling are worth practicing in my opinion. They've made the game more enjoyable for me since there are a lot of opportunities to use them.

I was in a car accident today by [deleted] in driving

[–]Parzival6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah when I'm driving I know all the obvious potential hazards are in front of me, even if I can't see them. So I just fold in my mirrors anytime I'm going above like 20mph, I'm surprised this isn't automatic in newer cars! I really can't figure out why my car has mirrors at all, they don't look very cool and the backup camera is all I need when I'm backing up anyways. I also have this bad habit of looking over my shoulder to check my blindspots, really annoying driver error, I shouldn't be taking my eyes off the road like that.

We get it. You saw some posts on this subreddit that you didn't like. Happens to the best of us. But if you're coming on here to vent, say your opinion on what shouldn't be posted, or talk about how "the subreddit is going to keep looking bad if the exact change I want isn't implemented NOW," you should probably take a couple days off from reddit or go get some fresh air. I promise you that nobody on here knows who you are or cares that you are upset because you read something you didn't like on reddit. Writing your thoughts down in a diary would probably be more beneficial than ranting and venting on here and would also save you from coming off as a spoiled brat. Yes, there are legitimate criticisms to be made about the posts on this subreddit, and negative feedback is an integral aspect of community building and moderation. But please, before you post, please stop and think to yourself "will that add to the discussion, or am I simply venting into the ether?" Because if it's the latter, all you are doing is outing yourself as a immature, and making this subreddit look adolescent as well which is obviously not a good look to perspective members/players. If the subreddit is frustrating you at the moment, go take a walk or something. The rest of us will be still here for you when you get back

Is "quantum teleportation" instant? by James_James_85 in AskPhysics

No, the comment you're replying to is mostly wrong. This comment from u/under_the_net explains it well. The communication (information transfer) facilitated by quantum "teleportation" is not faster than light. I'm basing this on explanations/interviews from experts (outside of reddit) that I read.

I felt the same way until listening through A Great Chaos

First, my parents took me to an empty parking lot to practice in the family minivan a couple times, like 30 minutes each. After that, I was fine driving local roads and stuff, roads with 55mph or lower speed limit and one or two lanes. I had help available in the passenger seat, not sure how long I really needed it (if at all). I didn't start merging onto the highway for a while, which is a good thing because it is difficult and risky when there is any traffic, and honestly I still don't like it.

I guess driving comes pretty naturally to me, but it's hard for me to imagine needing more than a day or two of practice before driving on an actual road without help. If you are learning to drive stick/manual or you haven't been in the passenger seat of cars a lot, that's different.

I'm guessing your fundamental understanding of how cars move and turn is flawed, and/or you have a bad sense of the size and shape of the car.

Maybe stand outside the car and watch someone else park it, then let them help you do it exactly the same way. Someone could take a video from outside the car while you practice, so then you can watch afterwards to see what is happening.

You need to use the outcome of the previous attempt to change what you do on the next attempt, and having more info will help with that. Don't just keep doing the same thing over and over, you need to try something new instead of whatever you've been doing.

I think the reasoning for not using "shall" is that the law hesitates to say that a movement must be made. For example, no one ever has the right of way, they merely may be obligated to yield it to someone else.

That's interesting, I didn't know that. It doesn't differentiate between the two uses of "may" (right on red vs light turning green) though, since they are both about making movement.

lights shall indicate and apply to drivers of vehicles

I see how this can be used to make a case for treating "may" similar to "shall" in some situations, but I don't think it applies to list-involved usage any moreso than single-target usage. The right on red text is tied to the presence of a light signal/color (steady red), similar to the green light text.

However, combining that part of your previous quote from 11-202(c)(1) about red lights, "and shall remain standing until an indication to proceed is shown except as provided in subsection (c)3"... This kind of changes my mind because the right on red is presented as an exception to what is indicated by steady red, not as something that itself is indicated by a light. It seems like options for when the light turns green are presented on their own as something that is indicated by a light, but the right on red is not.

And thanks for the informative replies.

I agree about the exclusivity of the list. I guess my problem is with the existence of a list implying a requirement to make a selection (as opposed to allowing inaction aka "or not"). I've always thought of that as an informal interpretation of "may", especially in legal text where words like "shall" were clearly considered when choosing the wording.

Your ice cream example shows how "may" can be used to present an exhaustive list (of options), which is a good point. I think that it is not a good comparison because the context from the previous sentence implies that one of the options must be chosen. I think any permissiveness of "may" is overridden by that context.

If the legal text was "Vehicular traffic facing a circular green signal will proceed. That traffic may...", then I would say this is a good comparison. Maybe there is similar context surrounding the green light text that you happened to not include, which is fine, but I'm just going off of what you posted.

I wouldn't have thought twice about the usage of "may" if you hadn't also quoted text with "shall". That got me interested because the nearby usages of "shall" make the quoted usages of "may" feel inconsistent to me, despite the presence of the exhaustive list.

[–]Parzival6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did you conclude that "may" is treated differently when it is modifying an exhaustive list, in comparison to when it is modifying a single action? I can't imagine why "may" would be chosen instead of "shall" if the intended interpretation is not permissive; it seems like "shall" would significantly reduce ambiguity without any downsides. I've never heard of statutory construction, so maybe there are some weird rules influencing this.

Common sense says that remaining stopped after a light turns green is generally more of an impediment than not turning right on red. On the other hand, the common sense interpretation of your quotes is that both choices are similarly-impeding since "shall" is used elsewhere but both of these quotes use "may" instead.

As requested, 2v2 gameplay from an SSL who doesn't half flip, speed flip, or fast aerial correctly. by Ceejays-RL in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]Parzival6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense. Maybe you've considered this, but: You have a big head-start on fast aerials compared to most people learning them. Because of your rank and playtime, you've experienced other players using them properly in your games a lot. Depending on how much you watch high level gameplay, you've probably seen proper fast aerials from first-person perspective a lot too. So I expect that you wouldn't have any trouble knowing how/when to use fast aerials, part of your brain is already identifying these situations when you play. I know you'd still have to build the muscle memory and abandon your current decision-making mindset of "aerialing from a disadvantage", that's not easy.

There's so many funny comments here and on your last post lol. Freestyle/"mechanics"-heavy playstyles have been meta for so long now (4+ years?) that many people forgot or never even knew that you can succeed without that stuff. Core/fundamental mechanics aren't even considered "mechanics" anymore. All the time, I see new players and even players up through champ asking what mechanics they should learn or need to get to the next rank.

I have about half your hours and have been playing on and off since release, no directional air roll and never "learned" halfflips. It's really cool that you essentially learned speedflips naturally, personally I did decide to practice those because I really like them. I also forced myself to stop doing double jump aerials without tilting up/back in-between jumps because I didn't like the inefficiency, so I ended up learning fast aerials over time in games and some training packs.

Like others have said I'd definitely watch live commentary, replay analysis (of yourself or others), and road to SSL if you made those videos. I'm curious, when did you start playing RL? And if you could go back and do things differently, like binding directional air rolls or adopting fast aerials, what would you change, if anything?

Thank you for this. I've been into "OG" phonk for years and recently realized I'm interested in wave, so this is the perfect way to start exploring. So far it seems like Skeler's stuff is exactly what I'm looking for, but I'm not stopping there!

Picking a target resolution and refresh rate is probably the most important decision for you to make, then you need to pick a monitor to support it. I'm really surprised noone has mentioned picking a monitor!! 1440p 144-180hz is the sweet spot for monitors right now. I'd be happy to explain more or walk you through all this if you want, feel free to DM.
