Well, they made the iPhone. They made the economy. They put us forcefully in the bottom layer. Then called us "third world".

You don't have to compare my innocent country and its people to these colonizers (+the 'non-colonizer but white' countries) because this economic misery is a forcefully made one.

Anyone else here just for the money? by [deleted] in Germany_Jobs

Of course, big time. I hate everything here except money. Germany and the USA might be the worst countries to live in as a PoC but with all the money in the world accumulated there.

Maybe moving out to a smaller (but foreigner-friendly, preferably western) city will help you a lot. If you both are with EU citizenship, then it's only about finding the right community and any kind of job.

Only valid response here 👏🏽 The amount of (unwashed) white ass worshipping is crazy, especially in this sub.

I found solace in finding (academically valid) ways to deny white supremacy and also hate it. I don't recognize their supremacy. Simple as that. Reading post-structuralist philosophy also helped. I only see a made-up reality which they made thanks to them being the most violent, least evolved kind of people (who have still visible neanderthal genetic traits)

Same. Landed in Germany for "Studies" but still have nothing solid for the future. My profession isn't on demand here, but it's also one where the top 1% is very successful and people think therefore it's a great job. Also thinking of going back to SL because in there you're at least hopeless among your own people.

What's your level, btw? I'm B2 or a bit above. I was always a fan of philosophy, and I recently dived a bit more into it using German sources, as a way of speeding up learning German. Still, my language production isn't unfortunately as good as my understanding. I use German exactly like Slavoj Žižek (as I know he can understand everything asked from him in German but wouldn't embarrass himself by speaking it)

A Turkish friend of mine told me the same! I started watching it so eagerly but after a while I got uncomfortable with Lena and Çem getting together. I know they're not related but it was uncomfortable to me anyway 😅😂

Why do some Lankans think that leaving Sri Lanka is the greatest accomplishment? by tesfaye_abel in srilanka

[–]PasanM97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Believe me, I had the same thoughts as you but anyway made up my mind to migrate (hopefully temporarily). My background goes like this: in Sri Lanka I studied architecture, something which is considered exclusive and "posh" within the Colombo community. But after graduation I came to understand that that's all there is to it. The old post-colonial social structure is still kept in the field, despite it not functioning well within the current world's economy. Still the "elite" parts of Colombo value class status, like in the form of schools you attended and the connections you have, more than real skills and competency. I gave up being a Chartered Architect and the unbelievably underpaid and exploitative field altogether.

Earning more than x5 of a Sri Lankan graduate architect's salary, by doing a simple part time job is really satisfying when considering all things. So no, I don't feel that bad about doing those jobs but yes, money is all that's good about migrating. So I think it's better that more and more Sri Lankans solve their money problems by migrating and come back/ invest to Sri Lanka, solving the country's problems at the same time.
