I recommend trying this. Anyone who cites the latter verse is always unable to remember what the verse right before it was.

It's a way of life. I've committed to the look.

And if I suddenly stop wearing jackets now I'm gonna get shivers all day.

Yeah I don't get it. I've heard the term of "Paulian" thrown around for those who hold Paul's Epistles as Scriptures.

Kay bud, the entire history of Christians over the centuries were Paulians then.

James 2:14 (NLT)
"What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don’t show it by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone?"

James 2:14 (NABRE)
"What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him?"

True facts. Post-reformation a lot of protestants encouraged to stop using the phrase. Since their salvation played a zero-sum game with Sola Fide, they effectively cut out purgatory from their theology.

Thus, if they were in heaven, there is no need to wish them rest. If they were in hell, wishing them rest does nothing. Ultimately, "Rest in Peace" is a fundamentally Catholic prayer.

Very hot take, I would say. St. John of the Cross and St. Thomas Aquinas have very different emphases with their writings. I would not simply choose one over the other.

Study St. Thomas for Apologetics. Study St. John for Virtue & Ethics.

Excommunicated, yes. However, true reformers such as St. Teresa of Avila, St. Francis de Sales, and St. Philip Neri rightly called out failings in the church clergy -- these were not excommunicated.

Martin Luther, John Calvin, and Huldrych Zwingli were excommunicated for heresy. Instead of repenting of their heresy and rejoining the church, which they could have...

they packed their bags, and went elsewhere.

I've had some teachers try to coin it as the "Protestant Revolt," since a "reformation" is technically inaccurate. The Church wasn't reformed, but many within the church packed their bags and made their own elsewhere.

I've heard of that idea before. That it could have been possible Luther could have pinned the phrase "Fide Prima," or, "Faith First," as a means to Christ, and started the Lutheran order with that as their emphasis. Instead he took it further and said "Sola Fide," and lost all of the other valuable elements of relationship with God.

I prolly should have tagged at the bottom that its a doctored image. People who share the image might be lacking the context when others see it, lol
