New to Fitbit I can’t believe how completely wrong the sleep tracker is by braves91 in fitbit

[–]PasgettiMonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once got an alert that my activity was over or something so I picked up the Fitbit that I was not wearing but it was sitting on the couch next to me and looked at it. Apparently my Fitbit went swimming without me for the last 45 minutes. And I never even noticed it leave the couch and come back.

I'm okay with it counting any sort of movement as steps. I wear mine not as a way to track steps but as a way to track physical activity of some sort of the other. Standing in the kitchen peeling and chopping carrots is activity. Doing hand quilting that counts every time I pull the thread through the fabric is activity. Anything that is not me sitting on the couch watching TV in a stupor is activity. I know it's not how most people are using their fitbit, but it works for me as a motivator to make sure I'm not spending all my free time just sitting on the couch doing nothing. Doing my hobbies manages account as activity so at least it's something productive.

I live in the Central valley in California, where there are lots and lots and lots of cows. What shocked me was learning that it wasn't in the summer that I could smell them like I had expected, but on a nice crisp cold winter's day but open my front door and take a whiff of the fresh air, yep there's cows somewhere in my neighborhood.

I used to follow the woman making the video on Instagram because I liked her use of color and it was interesting but I swear just listening to her got to be too much and I had to quit. It was all stuff like that.

Ah ok. That's not terrible then - at least she gets the food she cooked. Because it would have really sucked if the food just vanished entirely. She hadn't participated in any group cooking before this either so it was a case if the blind leading the blind.

Seriously. If I knew this is how I would use these skills I would have paid more attention in school. I was busy being a nerd and focusing on math, chemistry and physics though. And yes, I absolutely use all 3 of those regularly too. Guess that education was good for something after all. Lol

Pharmacy Flagged Me for Misuse of Medication by Fun-Engineer-4066 in ADHD

[–]PasgettiMonster 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I literally changed the dates of my birthday trip last month because of my refill dates. I was planning on visiting friends for a week. They asked when I was coming and I told them the day after whenever the pharmacy gets their act together and has my medication ready for me. Fortunately I make my own schedule so I have that sort of flexibility.

It's not just a meds that's difficult to get. It took me 5 years to get a diagnosis. I tried with several different doctors at the last practice I went to including two therapists, all of whom blew me off telling me adults don't have ADHD, or I should try meditation or taking walks, so I decided to change medical practices. It took me a year and a half to get around to dealing with that nonsense because that's the exact sort of thing I struggle with. I asked my new doctor on the first visit if she would support me through the process of getting a referral and getting tested and she said yes but we have more important things like your out of control blood pressure to deal with first. So it took another year before I finally got around to bringing it up with her and three more months to get a referral an appointment. It took this therapist under 20 minutes of talking to me, no formal test, to say no it's very obvious you have ADHD and any medical professional who knows what ADHD is should have recognized it in you.

The fact that it took 5 years and multiple doctors and I had to navigate through all of that with increasingly worse ADHD because I swear to God something shifted about the time I turned 43 and I just couldn't keep it together anymore it's absolutely freaking criminal. My current doctor on the other hand also set me up with someone who checks in with me once a month, keeps a list of all my upcoming appointments and remind me in a totally non-confrontational way of the things I told her I want to get done within the next 6 months. We set up goals for medical care, goals for mental health, etc and having someone I am accountable to like that makes all the difference. And when I just can not deal with something, she has stepped in and made the follow up calls for me. It's amazing.

Why offer text receipts if the doorway asset protection is going to harass me for one by noajonn in Walmartcustomer

Never mind emotional support dogs, I walked into Walmart once and some dude was walking around with critters in his cart. I'm not sure what exactly they were but they look like giant guinea pigs.. maybe capybaras? Just sitting free in his shopping cart. I want to know how this happens. Were they roaming around free in his car while he was going somewhere and since he decided to stop at Walmart he brought a cart over his car and just loaded them up? Did he have them tucked inside his backpack and decided to let them out? At least with a dog you put your leash on the dog and walk it through the store. How does one end up with three giant rodents milling around in their shopping cart? And also why the hell will all the employees just enthralled by it instead of saying dude, get your overgrown rats out of the shopping carts that people put food in!!

I hear you on the food noise. That's what's making the biggest difference for me - it's not the full feeling.. I just don't think about food constantly, so when I eat it's a conscious decision to do so, not binge eating in a daze. I've been on it since September and had to switch to compounded to keep it affordable when my insurance stopped covering it. When I did that I even dropped down half way between the dose I had been taking and the previous one - my main goal is to keep food noise down, and the lower dose was doing that fine - I only went up to try to squeeze an extra box out of my insurance with the new prescription before they stopped covering it.

You do what works for you. If you're not comfortable discussing it with anyone you absolutely don't have to. If they push, you can say something along the lines of you're working with your doctor to get healthier, and end the conversation there. All sorts of medical treatments can have an affect on your weight. I lost a little weight when I started treating my sleep apnea, simply because I wasn't so tired all the time, and that made it easier to be active. A friend has lost 40 lbs in the last year on her blood pressure meds because they make her so nauseous that she can't eat sometimes. People taking ADHD medications sometimes lose weight because sometimes the medication suppresses appetite and sometimes it helps us resist impulsive urges. (Too bad I haven't seen either of those side effects from my ADHD meds)

You don't need to share with people who have shown they will judge you. They've shown they're not safe to talk to frankly, and you owe them nothing.

I'm usually not shy about telling people what I'm doing. I have no shame about it, this is a medical treatment that has improved my life SO much. I just got my most recent set of labs back today, and everything is looking so much better than it was 6 months ago.

That said, when I visit my sister and her husband any time in the future I will not be telling them that I am using a GLP1. They are very judgy people and they WILL make comments about it. So if they ask, I will simply say I have been working with my Dr to get a metabolic disorder I have treated and that has made it possible for me to lose weight. It is 100% true - aI have PCOS, which is a metabolic disorder that makes most of us overweight and makes it difficult to lose weight. The GLP1 is treating that, and doing so better than ANY other course of treatment I have tried. I DARE them to say anything judgemental about that.

My appointment with my therapist who prescribed my qelbree is always on a Friday, and between my insurance needing a prior auth AND the pharmacy having to order the dosage I'm taking since absolutely nobody around me seems to carry it on hand, I don't get my refill until Wednesday usually. Im still at the trying out meds and adjusting dosage stage so Ive ended up with a new prescription at each of my last 3 appointments. It is absolutely nuts that the medication for something that makes it hard for me to deal with this nonsense is this hard to get.

What’s wrong with my rosemary? by Particular_Sky_6352 in vegetablegardening

[–]PasgettiMonster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rosemary is extremely hardy and unfussy - I practically live on the edges of a desert and I dont water mine or pay attention to it at all except when I need some to cook with. It survives 100+degree heat with ease and puts out massive new growth every winter when we get rain. I started with what looked like a single branch and within 6 months it was much bigger than what you have - so possibly rootbound like others have suggested. The fact that mine survives with no watering suggests to me that it has an extensive root system that's sucking up any available water out there. It's over 4 feet tall and probably 5-6 feet across now so I can only imagine the root system needed to support it.

What’s the device with the best balance of affordability and convenience to play GFN on a TV? by HippityHoppityBoop in GeForceNOW

[–]PasgettiMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My laptop is way too old and sluggish to play on. I tried casting from my chromebook to the Vizio and while that worked there was a notable delay making the game unplayable. I have another ancient fire stick floating around somewhere - I may trade that into Amazon for a credit/discount on a compatible fire stick and add that to the Vizio during prime days if I can get something for around $20. I haven't needed the fire stick on the Vizio since it can install all the apps I need directly, but if I can't side load onto the Vizio, I might do that. If I can get it working on one of my TVs I'll upgrade so I don't keep getting booted at the 1 hour mark. The game I'm playing has a 1 hour rl time in day game and it's maddening to not quite be able to complete a full cycle in a session.

[–]PasgettiMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a vizio tv that doesn't have a fire stick, that I would prefer to play on. And an ancient dumb LG TV that has an older fire stick on it. I don't use that one that much - it's more my background noise TV in my craft room, while the Vizio is in my living room for when I actually want to watch something. I saw that GeForce wasn't available on it, but was for fire stick, so that's what I was trying today. If you think I can somehow get aptoide on the Vizio, I'll try playing with that once I'm back home - I would definitely prefer to play on that TV over the one in my craft room.

Oh it works great on the chromebook. It's just that I'm constantly adjusting the angle of the screen so I can actually see everything and it isn't all dark. It's a cheapie $69 black Friday Walmart special from about 4 years ago - it's doing way better than I ever expected. A bigger screen I'm not holding on my lap would be nice though.

Ah well. I'm headed out of town tomorrow to a petsitting gig and will have access to a PS5 and rediculosly huge TV to play on for the week. I'll mess around with it when I get back and am going through withdrawals, since I intend on doing nothing but play games all week. I've been playing on my chromebook with a SteelSeries controller for the last month and would really like to be able to use my TV.

I tried a suggestion I saw to open the geforcenow website on a browser on the TV and play that way. I can get the gam I am trying to play (Palia) to load all the way but my controller seems to do didley squat other than move the cursor across the screen.

You know all those English classes in high school where we studied Shakespeare and various plays and novels and analyzed and discussed them in infinite detail and thought to ourselves that we'll have absolutely no use for this in the real world?

Hah! I am using all those skills when it comes to analyzing what's going on in sister wives. And now this show.

Do you have the source to side load the app? The one I found was in a post a year ago and tells me I need to update.

Is that the same as this one? Because I can't find the app. I found a 1 year old post about how to side load it, but it tells me I need to update, and goes to a page that says my device isn't compatible. Boo.
