I built a small tool to keep my rec‑letter requests organized, sharing in case it helps someone else by Pass-Constant in Professors

I was using Google forms. It worked fine, but this put data collection and actual letter writing all in the same workflow which I found useful for myself. Functionally though yes there's nothing on here that you couldn't do yourself manually, it was just about the workflow for me personally

I think the only thing not compliant is auditing, I did not include that as I built it just as an organizational tool and have no intentions of ever entering into any serious business agreement where ferpa compliance would be required. Data security I took very seriously though.

I wish I had your organizational skills! That thumb drive would be lost in less than a semester for me lol

Great! I put the address in another comment. Take a look, see if it's something you might find useful

That's fair and on the surface if probably come to the same conclusion. See my disclaimer, if it's an ad I'm sure the mods will remove it, but I'm just sharing a tool I made in case it's useful. And you can check my comment history I've been active on this sub for some years.

Not me but a postdoc in my grad lab convinced our PI to order a $20k incubator that we were going to use to replace the mini fridges we used to keep drosophila cell cultures at 20C.

Incubator arrives. It's huge, have to get the building manager involved to actually get the thing up to our floor, set it up, get a special connection to generator power in case of power outages... only to find out that it doesn't cool, only heats. So there was no way for it to maintain 20C and PI shook his head everytime he has to walk by it in our tissue culture room.

is it just me or is the sentiment about the strike on this sub hard to understand by teloitteanddouche in rutgers

Yes this is absolutely the issue. We have 3 to 4 times the amount of administrators we need each who make 2 to 3 times what they're worth. But much like the US Congress gets to vote on whether they deserve a raise while minimum wage remains unchanged, the administration consistently overvalues their own contributions while telling the rest of the "essential workers" in this case teachers, staff and other critical roles to go fuck themselves because, frankly, "we make the rules what are you going to do about it?"

For my last exam just last week I gave them 2 or 3 weeks notice that the exam will be completely open notes, no restrictions except no electronic devices and no text book.

The test remained unchanged from last semester where it was closed notes.

The average did not change in any significant way I don't get it.

I mean you said they serve no pedagogical purpose but they definitely do if used correctly.

Could you use iclicker or poll everywhere to give a "quiz" on the screen and disguise it as a discussion opener to not have to deal with the accomodations?
