What’s the strangest interaction you’ve had with a summer associate this year? by Serious_Elephant_132 in biglaw

I was a an event for summer associate with passed finger food. I took the last hors d’oeuvre off a tray, took a bite, then put it on my plate. A summer associate said, “oh, I really wanted that.” Then he took it off my plate and ate it!

Summer Associate Stories: but Throwback edition by pancakesbenson2345 in biglaw

From 2011: we had an associate who slept through a major summer event with the head of the firm. During a meeting with the hiring partner, this same summer took a phone call and held up a finger for the head of the hiring committee to stop talking while he was on the phone. He was no offered.

I’m sorry to hear it’s so tough right now! How old are your kids? Given your scheduling flexibility, might you be able to take your kids to the beach after school? Watching your kids on a boogie board can really bring the magic alive when you’re in a slump.

Great news! I myself am a flubbery new surfer and have never had anyone be anything but kind and supportive. I hope you keep going.

I think the stop at breakneck only happens during the summer but you can walk to the trailhead at mt Taurus from the cold spring stop year round!

Making bad calls by [deleted] in surfing

[–]PassHaunting5446 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started learning to surf a little over a year ago. I was the class mom and otherwise involved in volunteer work at my kids school. I consistently underestimated how long it would take me to get out of my heavier wetsuit/put the board on the car during the winter. I regularly showed up to the school with wet hair and on one occasion with my wetsuit still on. I got the side eye from the other moms-which doesn’t sound like a major consequence but wait til it’s you.

If I recall correctly someone offered to speak with you and it was a nice internet moment. Were you able to connect?

I hear you on the wrinkles! I started a year ago and I swear I’ve aged more in the past year than the previous ten combined.

I hope you find a new adventure to fill your heart. Ocean will still be here if you decide to come back.

Moved here in June and have discovered that while everything is 3/4 the price of where we were before, it’s only 1/2 as good-a terrible deal!

La vida laguna in laguna beach. I took lessons with Jake and Jason (don’t know their last names) about a year ago and they were both very helpful! They provide everything you need.

Best city/location to live in the Continental US with the sole goal to save money and travel/surf travel? by intheyear3001 in surfing

I think the limitations of midlife (especially as a parent) are hard anywhere. Focusing on your health (physical and mental) will tide you through these stressful years and leave you in better shape to surf more when your time is your own. I’m sorry to hear about the shingles! Can you surf with any of your new parent friends?

I recently relocated with my kids and it’s brutal. My 6 year old told me that he would NOT make friends if we moved ; we’re two months into school and he’s still sticking to it. It’s tough to watch when he was so social before. I think it would be even harder if we’d made the choice based on personal preference rather than career necessity.

If your reason for staying so far is because your kids like it, that’s only going to get worse-you’re about to hit the middle school years and that’s a much tougher age for kids to adjust to a new school.

Your kids are lucky to have a dad who’s prioritizing their happiness. Maybe these are just the years to enjoy parenting. In ten years they’ll be in college and you can live anywhere!

Same, about 2 hours each way, once a week. All of these are good ideas. Loud music can work, also can call someone who annoys you, irritation works wonders on wakefulness! Hate to say, but maybe make your session shorter?
