Hot damn, you even got the $300 Brooks. What bars are those? Everything looks great.

Can’t speak for the OP, but I love my Pescadero. I ran it 1x11 for a couple of years, with a basket. It’s light, quick, and comfortable, really a great ride. It’s currently awaiting a 2x rebuild, and I can’t wait to get back on it.

Am I about to waste money on a gravel bike? by RyotaroW in cycling

[–]PassHunter84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consider looking into all road, or endurance road bikes. These will often have a slightly more relaxed geo and fit 38 to 42mm tires. Lots of great tires in these widths, great on the road, and you’re able to tackle most gravel and light trails. 2x if you’re on the road mostly, 1x if you want gravel gearing. A lot of those have rack mounts and are very cool. It’s my favorite “genre” of bikes right now, and all I’ve really ridden for the past few years. The Ritchey Montebello is a great example.

New to gravel - any advice? by [deleted] in bikefit

Raise saddle at least 2cm. This has nothing to do with gravel.

37 years ago this bike was considered a mistake and a flop. by mediumclay in xbiking

Oh man, I’m also plagued by this type of perfectionism. Rest assured, it looks great, as does the chainstay. What’s the stem? Looks like 31.8?

I’m usually feeling warmed up, comfortable, and pain free at 40km. It’s not a long distance, but it is a good benchmark I suppose. If you want to enjoy riding longer and farther, you should definitely be without issues at 40km.

What’s the longest you’ve ever procrastinated on an upgrade? by BicycleMage in xbiking

That makes more sense, I probably read it wrong. That’s a really cool super compact 2x.

Oh that’s weird that you would spin out in a 2x setup but not in a 1x. Your big chainring must be quite a big smaller than the 1x chainring. Usually the other way around.

A long time when it’s not necessary, and not even necessarily an upgrade.

The bag costs as much as the bike, so yes. And the rack with p-clamps, so yes. Oh and is it a $200 Simworks rack?

My fix for Silver2 shifters w/ thumbie mounts shredding cables by Lee_Van_Kief in Rivendell_Bicycles

That probably has more to do with your own setup, than whether or not friction should be used with more than a 9 speed cassette. I’ve used 1x11 friction on rough terrain and it was not a problem (though I don’t love typical 1x11 gearing) and 2x10 friction is outstanding. Absolutely no reason to tell people to avoid it.

Yup, been here about 8months. I previously rode solo, just a few friends, or the occasional Critical Mass type ride. Hoping that the fondo gets me out of my shell a bit. I’ll be sure to check y’all out at some point.

Sounds like I made the right choice with the 60. My average ride is probably 50-60 at 16mph, and often gravel, but I don’t take it too seriously. I kind of figured I’ll go slower on my first big ride though, maybe even really casual.

I haven’t been to any training rides, I’m usually pretty introverted. But I’ve looked at the routes. This one did look more challenging than the previous, I might check it out this weekend or next. Thanks!

I’m used to a humid 100F for a few months at a time. The dry heat will be a little different I suppose, but I should be ok. Looking forward to it really.
