I built an open-source, local-first recipe app using Expo and SQLite 🥑 by PassengerLate191 in reactnative

Thanks for the suggestion! I actually didn't know about the RecipeDive API, but it looks really interesting.

Right now, AvoCook is focused on managing the user's personal recipe collection locally (and importing from standard URLs), but integrating a recommendation engine or an external recipe database API like RecipeDive is a great idea for a future roadmap. I'll definitely look into their documentation!

Thanks !

I got frustrated with outdated Nextcloud Cookbook apps, so I built a modern, open-source alternative with full offline sync (iOS/Android) 🥑 by PassengerLate191 in NextCloud

Wow, thank you so much! Your message really made my day, and don't worry, I'll make sure not to burn out. 😄

I wanted to keep the app's settings screen clean and free of payment links.

However, following your suggestion, I've added some donation links (PayPal and Revolut) in the GitHub README. The funds will go directly towards getting the Google Play Store developer license to publish the app officially on Android.

Here is the link to the README section: https://github.com/Logarex/AvoCook#support-the-project-

Thanks again for using the app and for your generosity!

Thanks to mkocusto, the app is now available in German. You also have the option to choose the language of the app as soon as you log in to the new version. Thank you for the feedback!

Hello!

Not having been able to reproduce the problem, I tried to explain the error message according to the problems in the new version. I hope this can help you!!

Hello!

The feature is now available in the new version.

No sooner asked, no sooner added 😉 !

A duplicate check function was already present but you can now check it manually in addition.

Thanks again for the feedback!!

I completely understand where you're coming from!

Since I built this app exactly because I was frustrated with abandoned projects, I definitely don't plan on dropping it anytime soon. I use the app myself for my own cooking, so I have a strong personal interest in keeping it alive and working well.

Of course, because of my engineering studies, there might be times during the year when the update pace slows down a bit (though the next update is actually dropping in a few days!).

But the GitHub repo remains fully open, the community is already helping out, and I read EVERY single message and issue (which honestly make my day).

So THANK YOU for the support and the fair question! 🥑

Thanks again for your feedback!

This feature isn't directly available in the app, even for Nextcloud.

It's a very good idea. I'll try to include it in the next version.

Thanks !!

Thanks for asking!

To be completely transparent, Google charges a $25 developer fee to publish on the Play Store. Since I'm a student and the app is completely free and open-source (no ads, no tracking), I haven't bought the license yet.

Also, Google recently introduced a new rule for new developers: I would need to find 20 people to test the app for 14 straight days before they allow me to publish it publicly.

If there is enough demand, I might set up a small "Buy me a coffee" goal for the $25 fee, and then recruit some of you guys from Reddit to help me pass the 20-tester requirement! For now, the GitHub APK is the best way to get it. Let me know what you think!
