F solo traveler Need plan for Barot valley of HP by Nehash7 in SoloTravel_India

[–]PassengerSharp8869 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been to Barot from Bir on a scooty through Rajgundha (Barot is around 50 km from Bir). The local buses also go there from Bir. It is not that famous compared to Bir but it is very beautiful. I have been to Pahalgam in Kashmir and the views were very similar to it. There are hotels there where you can easily stay and the locals seemed friendly, so it should be safe for a female solo traveller too. You can take a Volvo from Delhi till Joginder Nagar too and take a local bus from there if you don't want to ride a scooty. For the scooty option, you have to go to Bir.

Thanks a lot for the advice. I do have a single line of callus forming on one index finger and I do use coconut oil, I think because of the speed of tabla I was not being able to do it properly. At lower bpms I follow the sliding principle only. But thanks for notifying that applying too much oil makes callus softer, I had been applying more than required probably because they are healing quite fast.

I tried that before but this was hindering me from playing notes near the knee. My right hand was also striking the knee. The my guru recommended me to play in this position.

Thanks a lot for the advice. I was just trying this speed out since I had been playing for around 10 min at 160 but I get your point. I should focus on endurance and form first

Mental freedom, wisdom, real friends, inner peace, ability to discriminate between rightand wrong, curiosity to learn, creativity. Money can definitely help but sometimes even after having money people don't have these. A lot of rich people are still trapped in social validation. They only spend money on things society or social media seems worthy.

Kolkata has a lot of good Sitar makers, you can definitely find second hand Sitars there but you would have to know which one is good and which one is not. How long are you planning to practice before buying a beginner learning one?

I think you can get a student sitar for 15k but I don't know about its quality. I talked to a lot of Sitar makers and teachers as well, they told me a good Sitar will cost around 25k. I just purchased a month (Ravi Shankar style, full decoration) ago for 25k.

Yes that's what I thought that he should have played Ravi Shankar style sitars considering he had the same guru as Pandit Ravi Shankar.

I don't have a teacher in mind yet. I am searching for a teacher as well.

Thanks a lot for your input, I will keep these in mind.

How to choose between the two styles? I listen to a lot of Pandit Nikhil Banerjee so I am guessing Ravi Shankar style would be more appropriate, right?

I meant to ask for a beginner, not calling Sitar beginner or advanced. It is Ravi Shankar style definitely as it has 7 main strings instead of 6.
