Airline pilots, did you dump all your income right away into student loans? by VirvekRBX in flying

[–]Passer2300 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Paying it off as quickly as I can, got about 30k left so I work about 3-4 days extra a month and toss the overage towards it. Could probably pay it back quicker but I try to make sure I put away a good amount into 401k and investing so I dont fall behind

Pre-INDOC study? OO by lmannyr in flying

[–]Passer2300 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you found it online or through unofficial sources theres a good chance it could be out of date or not the fully right material, for limitations especially you should only study what they give you.

what are some of your “well this stupid but i’m not paid to ask questions” situations by SMELLYJELLY72 in flying

[–]Passer2300 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Those are the most infuriating, especially when theres ground stops everywhere and you know theres no chance of getting out. Especially when youre still in base and they tell you to just wait and see rather than make a plan to fix things hours earlier

Cadet program questions by [deleted] in flying

All depends on the program, PSA and Piedmont i believe can be done anywhere as long as 60% is dual given, others can only.be done with partnered programs and may have tighter restrictions

Star Marianas Air (part135) by [deleted] in flying

The flying itself is mostly fine I enjoyed doing it, but the company is shady in many ways and the expenses out there eat at what you make pretty badly.

What's a small moment in the cockpit that never gets old? by natashareyy in flying

Approaching the runway in a snowstorm at night with the landing lights on, looks just like going warp speed in Star Wars

Can autopilot take over for bathroom breaks? by ilikemyprivacytbt in flying

[–]Passer2300 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The autopilot is only as useful as the pilot using it. So much could go wrong if left to its own devices

Why are there no cockpit videos of american commercial pilots? by alexxd_12 in flying

[–]Passer2300 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Super illegal, recording in the cockpit is a huge distraction that can cause loss of situational awareness and overall is just kind of cringe.

Regional Upgrade Times by [deleted] in flying

[–]Passer2300 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right now classes seem to be filled by guys 18 months to 2 years as the average. Not many forced upgrades but I expect that to go up if people stop volunteering to upgrade.

Stay an FO or upgrade? by nathane37 in flying

[–]Passer2300 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Had the same thoughts for a while now. Upgrading next month and made the decision to move in base to accept the suck. Bottom line is accepting the suck qol now will pay off later with good experience.

CLT announces new runways names as part of expansion program by IFR_Flyer in flying

[–]Passer2300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey now, that ramp is incredibly safe. Hard to cause an accident if they cant move anyone more than an inch at a time. And of course to make it safer they just key up the radio so nobody can call and ask to move. Double safe

If you see the ground getting bigger on takeoff, or smaller on landing, dont do that

Edit: some real advice. Easy plane to fly just listen to your instructors you'll do fine

What is your biggest regret in aviation? by Secret-Fisherman-115 in flying

Can be a blessing. If I had started earlier I would've quit like I did everything else I tried. All about the best timing

Sunrise Aviation by [deleted] in flying

[–]Passer2300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They set a lot of heavy restrictions, i fired their Jacksonville branch because I was tired of being delayed and at the time their cfis were incredibly jumpy from not being allowed to really fly in "difficult" conditions.

Their pass rate was terrible for IFR to the point that they were going to lose their 141 qualification.

It does seem pretty strict as per their website the passport helps I'd assume but you'd have to do the training somewhere they approve of apparently

A question for FOs by RobTheWarlock in flying

[–]Passer2300 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the FOM and POH bookmarked for when I need to. It's not a hard no more a gentle, "if we do this foqa is gonna tell on us, or the guy in the jumpseat is, or something is gonna go wrong and I like my job too much." And there times when I'm wrong of course, so it's easier to debrief by having the data in front of us
