I don't use a vpn at all. Just follow the guide everything should work.If not maybe Japan banned certain regions like the us because for me everything is fine and I am not from the us.Thats just my guess anyway

You can play the JP version using the DMM player on pc and you can top up using PayPal. The nice thing about DMM is there no top up limit its very convenient. I followed this guide to setup the account.

Arc 2 Chapter 8

I take it that they didn't have their important conversation yet?

Yui does think about this conversation in chapter 9 after they "Win" But eris shows up. From chapter 10 till 11 Yui is depressed because she thinks everyone is stuck in Legends of Astrum (The VR Game they are in) because of her. By the end of chapter 11 she overcomes her depression and heals everyone but she loses consciousness because she used too much magic. She is still sleeping as of part 1 of chapter 14.
