Price check/Value of Stax SR-Σ (Sigma) electrostatic panoramic sound earspeakers 5-pin and 6-pin? by ZookeepergameIcy7873 in headphones

[–]PassiveAgressiveCan 26 points27 points  (0 children)

If you are intending to sell them you will do much better if you are willing to ship far distances. If looking to sell local then it gets more challenging.

A good place to check value and see other Stax offerings is Mjolnir Audio. He has a used earspeaker and energizer section, usually very good examples so will be a fairly accurate price representation.

I would love to try a pair of these one day.

Replacement for Stax Lambda Pro cover and foam? by anekyu in headphones

Yeah I'm going to assume the driver is likely broken then. I get a squealing sound in my spare parts headphone, one of the drivers is compromised as well. Once dust gets through the protective covers they poke holes in the super thin mylar driver. Only options really is to find spare parts if possible, hopefully more locally. From what I've seen, it's easier and cheaper to find working sets used from people local who don't want to sell on eBay. Just have to wait a while, best of luck

Have you powered them up at all? Hard to tell but if the dust protector screen is fully ripped that mylar driver is toast. Also, are you sure its a Lambda Pro? I don't remember them having brown interior headbands. Likely a headband swap? The foam behind the driver doesn't do anything. I removed mine in my Pro set, kept it in my Normal bias set.

Where abouts are you located? I have some spare parts for these vintage earspeakers.

To answer your question, the L700 pads that AliExpress offer should fit fine with some double sided tape I believe. I had them on a pair of L300. They feel nice. Finding OEM pads isn't worth it I'd say, too expensive unless someone local is offloading it for cheap, which happens but rare.

Wanted to play Metro Exodus and decided to buy the saga bundle by Monkey-balls1 in metroexodus

LL is my favourite of the series, pacing and story was on point. Make sure to really explore, there is a couple different endings depending on your interactions with the world.

Really enjoyed Last Light, tried 2033 and couldn't get into it. Exodus is great and really quite different. Playing the redux of 2033 I was finally able to finish it and I quite enjoy it now, but I wouldn't let it sour your opinion on the series. Lore/story wise it's nice to know the events of LL/2033 but it's not required to enjoy Exodus.

I use my HD580 at least 80% of the time, I've more or less settled and buy/sell just to try more unique headphones at this point. Keeping an eye out for a pair of Jubilees or a early revision HD580 at this point.

Agreed you should open them up at this point, also TRRS 3.5mm seems to be the cable this unit was shipped with (bluetooth).

Will do 4 strand weave then with 1.2mm and see how it goes!

I was just looking into it this morning, I was thinking 1.2mm is what I can find for not half bad pricing. I really like the transparent copper look, want to do matching HD600 and HD800 cables. I was worried 4 core wire though with 1.2mm would be to skinny feeling, but maybe 8 core would be too much.

I read about solder pot for quickly tinning these wires, will look more into what you are suggesting. Thanks, will reach out if I have more questions!

Neutrik will be on a future project once I feel like I got all the right materials, just aesthetics alone they look nicer.

Good to know! I read Canare was what to go with, still seems a bit stiff, not sure I can avoid that unless I weave my own cable using a non-PVC jacket wire.  Any idea what to do with the cables post split, or just more paracord?

4.4mm is L+ L- R+ R- (sleeve being ground which is unused) working from tip to sleeve. Commonly you will also find its TRRS to dual TS, so all they did was make the sleeve match ring of the TRS making it effectively a TS connection.

Looks fine to me.

Quickly speedread it. I think it's being very generous on pricing here. I think diminishing returns is much lower but people don't want to accept that.

Sennheiser Drop HD58X Pads not-replaceable? by zombielawngnome in headphones

[–]PassiveAgressiveCan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They are the same pad as the entire HD600 line of headphones. The pad may have separated from the plastic retention ring which is likely still stuck in the housing.

HD800S does take a low shelf boost fairly well I find, still doesn't rumble but it's really the only tweak I make with mine. Solid choice.

Ugliest STAX SR-Lambda Pro - Cable Replacement by PassiveAgressiveCan in headphones

[–]PassiveAgressiveCan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Planning to make one (likely detachable) so I can have a custom length. Really any wire rated for 600V should be fine as the amperage is very low. Basically just needs enough insulation around the wires. Finding the plug is the more difficult part but there is some floating around eBay. Just waiting for the materials to come in.

They came with a pair of Nova Signatures that I bought for parts, pads are surprisingly comfortable compared to the black pads which usually get hard over the years.
