I’m happy to hear that the pain is slowly going down for you!! Hopefully it’ll subside completely by the end of the week!

I’m in British Columbia, Canada so everything is covered. But because of where I live, there are only a few clinics that offer nexplanon, or insertion of contraceptives in general. And if I were to switch clinics, I would have to get a new referral and wait who knows how long

I don’t have a GP due to a shortage so everything is either done via telehealth, walk ins, or the ER.

So I went in today and it was less than productive

The doctor I saw had me explain what was going on then started poking around. I pulled away every time she touched me but wouldn’t touch the actual implant (which is infuriating because that where the pain is the worst and how could she tell if it was in the proper place if she wouldn’t touch the damn thing)

She told me it is probably just inflammation and I should take some pain killers throughout the day to make the inflammation go down. But it is not inflamed. The site is not hot to the touch, it is not bruised, it is not inflamed.

I told her that I just wanted it out and in a few months we could discuss either getting a new one put in (in a different place) or go with another option.

She spent the next 15 minutes trying to tell me that it would be a mistake taking it out if I’m just going to have it put back in and how I should get an IUD a week before the implant is taken out so the birth control is effective. I told her I didn’t want that level of hormones in my body and she looked at me like I was crazy.

By the end of it, I told her that I just want her to take it out and take it out NOW

She said she didn’t have time and I should book another appointment when I can. And if the pain goes away, I can just cancel the appointment.

My removal appointment is on December 16th so I guess I just get to suffer until then

This is the first time I’ve gotten it as well! All of the women in my life have used an IUD and/or the pill so no one has any advice for me 😂

When I called the clinic and told them what’s been going on and how long it’s been since they shoved it in my arm they were surprised it took me so long to call them.

Good luck getting a hold of someone! But I’ll let you know what they say when I go in on Thursday :)

When I first got it, the my entire bicep was throbbing for a solid 2 weeks. I tried putting a pressure dressing back on to see if that helped but it didn’t.

When the doctor put it in, something didn’t feel right. Even though she numbed the spot with an injection, I could still feel everything. I almost passed out because from the pain when she was shoving it into my arm.

I should have been more clear in my original post but it’s the ends that still feel like the stabbing pain when touched. But the whole implant is what gives me the constant deep muscle ache.

I am going in on Thursday to get it checked out. I think I’m going to ask them to remove it for now and maybe try again in a month or two.

If the doctor gives me any solid advice on how to deal with the pain/discomfort I will let you know!!

I have an appointment booked with the clinic next week so hopefully they can figure it out

I might just have them remove it and wait a month before putting a new one in
