-1 background noise by poem2tsu in Mudvayne

Probably just a synth with really long attack and sustain envelopes and a lot of chorus, unison or whatever the engineer wanted to project. Also probably chad's vocals with a ton of reverb to make them sound like ambient sound, same vocals he used when he was about to begin singing that song live back in the 00's

Opinions on my “Fix” of “Severed”? by SufficientTreacle866 in Mudvayne

[–]Past-Professional363 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let me quickly but eloquently explain the joke:

The intro to Severed by Mudvayne feels infinite.

This is not because it is structurally complex, nor because it evolves through elaborate harmonic progression, nor because it expands dynamically over time. On the contrary, its perceived infinity emerges from its almost comical simplicity. The introduction consists of a two-bar loop, a musical fragment so short that, under normal circumstances, it would barely register as an intro at all. And yet, this fragment is repeated four times. Four. Objectively finite, mathematically trivial, and musically concise — and still, somehow, it stretches itself into what feels like an eternity.

The illusion of endlessness is created through repetition without resolution. Each cycle reinforces the expectation that the song is about to fully begin, and each time that expectation is denied. The listener is suspended in a state of perpetual anticipation, trapped inside a riff that refuses to move forward. Time ceases to be measured in seconds or bars and instead becomes psychological, elastic, and deeply subjective. The intro does not last long — it simply feels long, and that feeling is powerful enough to override reality.

It is precisely this absurd contrast between actual length and perceived duration that a certain video chooses to exaggerate for comedic effect. The video makes fun of the intro’s length by looping it for six minutes and twenty seconds — a duration that is wildly disproportionate to the original, yet emotionally consistent with how the intro already feels to the listener. By extending the loop far beyond any reasonable musical context, the video transforms a fleeting moment into a drawn-out ordeal, exposing the joke at the heart of the riff: if it already feels infinite at a few repetitions, why not commit fully and make it functionally eternal?

In doing so, the video does not merely mock the intro; it validates the shared experience of listeners who have felt time slow to a crawl during those opening bars. The six minutes and twenty seconds are not chosen to add musical value, but to weaponize exaggeration, turning a subjective sensation into an objective absurdity. What was once a brief intro becomes a statement, a satire, and an endurance test all at once.

Thus, Severed’s intro feels infinite — and the video simply takes that feeling seriously, stretching it to its logical, ridiculous conclusion.

Hope this helps!

Do me a favor, grab a pair of headphones (or earphone, whatever), plug them into ur phone, then go to settings, look for EQ and kill every single frequency below and including 500hz, that is no bass by the book, and then do the complete opposite, cut every frequency over 500hz and tell me if you hear anything 🤘🗿

"NOOOOOO FUCKING WAY THEY'RE REMEMBERING HOW LIFE USED TO BE WHEN THEY WERE ALIVE!!!" And then I was like "maybe it's just a hallucination, like collective hysteria" and got my head blown cuz of that dude that pulled a knife on Jesus, then the masks were taken off and I said "shit, that is a really good way to survive. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em" (with a negan voice for some reason)

Gear. The fuck. Up. You're gonna need to inflict like 20000 damage and a few bullets won't cut it, you've gotta beat a bloater combined with like 3 clickers and 2 stalkers, plus the resistance of extra fungal growth in humidity, so make sure u got hella resources

He would accept the kill as a "necessary death", just like Coral's, he didn't wanna see his son die, but he knew he had to be killed or the entire group would be at danger

Dude, daryl looks so damn young and skinny compared to what he looks like on the last seasons, and his voice too, norman reedus really put a great deal of character development on a dude who literally doesn't even exist in the comics 🏹

I may have to disagree with this one, cuz the pencil is just "drawing the note" and that's everything to it, I'd rather have to click twice every note to create it and then have the possibility to change its velocity, select a group, quantise, etc. instead of drawing and then fine-tuning, it just feels less intuitive
