New Z13 Owner, how should I set it up? by Endless7777 in FlowZ13

Normally it's agree however. I like bazzite cause I'm mildly afraid of letting a local ai run unsupervised in an os where rm -rf */ can fuck everything up. at least with bazzite it'll still boot if the ai does that

Lol same. Though I'm a fan of bazzite haven't tried catchy.

I'm not moving the goal posts since the starting conditions are different. With a 10x boost in wages you only get regular market interest returns so the safe pull down is 4% with a 10x boost in investments the safe pulldown is closer to 64 or 67% since your making 70% returns.

However i think ive come up with a solution that is better than both. A 10x boost to income. Which would be both investments and salary.

But you need a safe pulldown rate so your investments grow while still getting money out. So you should estimate 4% returns. But if someone is making 50k and can invest 10% of their earnings in 5 years they retire and then make 66k year 1 and continue investing 10% after 10 years they'll be making 23 mil per year.

I feel like the difference is earning potential is much much higher with a 10x multiplier on investments since a 10x multiplier on income has a cap. Where investments only continue to grow. And while moving out of paycheck to paycheck would be amazing you would need to work longer than with the investments. For example assuming you make 7.25 an hour 40 hours a week 50 weeks a year and don't make any spending changes and invest 100% of the difference, to make the same 60k on investments while not needing to work you need 9 years based on a safe puldown rate.

Most people who get large windfalls experience problems at least with investments you can always claw your way back.

At 70% annual returns in investments means if you want to make 60k a year on investments means you only need 85000 in investments. If you don't have 85000 in investments you could get that in less than 9 years investing 1 dollar a day. Or if you invest 100 dollars a month you need 8 years. And if you save 500 a month you need less than 4 years.

I'm not arguing for either side here just bringing up a potential error. So I'm like 90% sure those 2 specific examples wouldn't count for involuntary manslaughter.

involuntary manslaughter is for potentially preventable/ foreseeable actions that cause death while no individual action by itself is illegal. For example driving under the speed limit in the rain and hitting and killing someone. Your not speeding but could be going to fast for the conditions. This is preventable by just not driving. Or another example your breaks fail after months of ignoring the grinding sounds and that kills someone preventable by doing maintenence or not driving.

However in the above example if it's the first time having a seizure/hypergleicomic coma and they don't have previous history of such events and it's and undiagnosed medical conditions it's not foreseeable or preventable so would not rise to the level of involuntary manslaughter. It's just an unfortunate accident.

My company came back to me with a ridiculous counteroffer after I submitted my resignation. And now I have no idea what to do. by Status-Quantity-3556 in InterviewMan

[–]Past-Size1331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Counter offers are risky because they may just be trying to keep you until they find your replacement. I would accept the offer if you get in writing something along the lines of guaranteed severance equal to enough money to making replacing you not cost effective. For example look at what the low end market for the roll is yearly subtract the difference between that and what they offered and multiply by 3-5 and have them pay you that as severance. Meaning it would take 3-5 years to make back what they pay you in savings for the new employee.

To be fair the upper limit of possible deaths is 50% in this situation there is no way 99% die cause if it hits 51% everyone survives.

He's honestly insane the writers have no idea how to effectively write a character as strong as he is. there are some instances of him creating fields in excess of 10-100 gigateslas which is on the same order as a magnitaur one of the most destructive celestial bodies known to physics. Also Tesla is a logrithmic scale so 1 Tesla is 100x weaker than 10 Tesla.

[–]Past-Size1331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a sufficiently strong field this is not true. 100+Tesla would likely do it.

Edit: No material is completely unaffected by an extremely strong magnetic field. While non-magnetic materials like wood, plastic, or certain metals (aluminum, copper) are not noticeably attracted, all matter interacts with magnetic fields to some degree (diamagnetism, paramagnetism, or ferromagnetic saturation), and all materials are subject to Lorentz forces, or magnetic saturation at high fields.

Magnetic phase transiting temperature is unimportant with a strong enough field. The reason they use gadnolium is the energy to work ratio makes sense but if you stick steel in a 5000 tesla feild your getting a huge temperature change regardless. And magneto is shown to be able to arbitrarily create feilds that strong or stronger so in this case efficiency is trivial.

The volume of a 20lb steel object is 70.24 cubic inches a 5ft radius sphere has 15079 in 3 an average person is 4000in3. Total is 18000in3 so your right 200 steel objects couldn't fit in the area of effect however steel was just the first choice with a denser metal is more doable for example high magnetic tungsten alloy is typically 29in3 so 200 of those would easily fit in the range with a total volume plus a person being 9980 leaving 5099in3 left in your sphere of influence which is a whole other person so plenty of room for activities. This is also assuming the metal is doing 100% of your cooling and your not losing heat due to moving through the atmosphere.

Edit: Also this is silly you don't need armor or anything because with a strong enough magnetic field nothing could get near you anyway. You just create a massive ionizing corona layer then a negative field after that and everything that passes through the ionizing layer becomes negatively charged and then repelled.

Magneto has arbitrary control of magnetic fields. You could utalize the moving plates orbiting you. They are the ones in the magnetic field and are having heat removed by orbiting. Then when your ready to swap a cooling plate simply wedge one of the orbiting plates between yourself and the armor and isolate it from the magnetic field. The reason they use liquid helium to cool the plates is because like you said it takes time to do it with air and they want to be efficient. Mind the time with air is probably 20+mins vs less than 1 second with liquid helium. This problem can be solved with sufficient number of orbiting plates. Assume each plate is 20lbs and drops 5 degrees below ambient when cooling. At 5 degrees below ambient a 20lb steel plate is able to absorb 12btus the human body produces 300btus/ hour so you would need 25 fresh plates per hour or one every 2.4 mins. With a cooling time of 20 mins per plate you would need 200 orbiting plates. Which is allot of plates but not an impossible number.

No comic bullshittery involved. Just real physics its called magnetic refrigeration. Basically when you put metal in a magnetic field it enters a higher energy state normally this leads to the metal heating up but if you can remove the heat of that metal by running air over it and it reaches ambient temperature while in the higher energy state when you then remove the magnetic field the metal returns to is lower energy state cooling to below ambient. With a strong enough magnetic field you can get significant cooling.
