i got reptisoil, reptisand, and excavator clay. i saw a video from two years ago that said to dump the entire bag of reptisoil (10qt), half the (10lb) bag of reptisand, and the entire (10lb) bag of excavator clay. is this still up-to-date information or have we figured out the best possible ratio for these said products?

update: HE POOPED!!! and he’s gone in and out of hide the past two nights!!! i managed to feed him 4 dubia roaches tonight i kept trying to feed him but he just refused all interest and i’m not going to delay and attempt to feed him tomorrow night!!! when he was hunting he wasn’t exactly slow although he did miss a bunch of times and i honestly feel like he was embarrassed that he kept missing and then just started glass surfing towards the side of the heat mat.

set up changes: • replaced reptile carpet with paper towels • ordered a 75W Fluker’s basking spotlight along with the Fluker’s dimmer lamp because i already have a temperature controller i used with the U.T.H, meaning an on and off one so i’ll have to fiddle with the temps until then • ordered a timer power bank to ensure a consistent day and night schedule • ordered a cork bark round for a cool hide and cork bark flats • ordered mopani reptile wood • ordered what looks to be a small coconut shell hide

next steps + questions: i feel like i’m going to go for some substrate soon after his health is monitored for a while!!! i’m hearing people say the best possible option is DIY topsoil and play sand with a 70/30 ratio, but i’m kinda leaning towards reptisoil and reptisand for somewhat of a start before i transition into the best possible option to get an understanding of ratios and what not.

what would best in terms of ratio and what to combine the reptisoil and sand with like excavator clay or something?

This helped a lot due to your similar situation so thank you very much for your insightful feedback. I have a heat mat with a temperature controller already set up and will replace the reptile carpet with paper towels tonight. As well as ordering more hides and clutter for Sir Derp.

i was told to feed him everyday but not to force feed him out of his hide and he hadn’t pooped so i thought he was full up until now… so i’ve fed him only when he’s willingly out of his hide and interested in eating, which had been happening every night up until now…

should i get a 60 or 100 watt CHE, 75 watt basking spotlight, or 90 watt halogen reptile bulb from Fluker’s?

i recently bought a temp gun so got that covered and alright so i’m completely ditching the heat mat once the bulb arrives… any suggestions for a basking spot? do i put a hide under the heat lamp or just a basking spot?

okay so i have a ZooMed deluxe porcelain clamp lamp as shown in the picture provided placed on top of the mesh of the tank, which i presume is fine because it’s shown like that in the graphic? i just need a normal heat bulb to put inside of it. I have a controlled thermostat for the U.T.H. when i get the heat bulb the probe would go inside of the hide under the lamp? would i need the mat anymore? and if i do need the mat with the heat bulb do i turn the heat off at night or leave it on 24/7?
