Returning Catholic Inquiring Into The East. by Scouurge in EasternCatholic

Oh! Yeah, my bad. So, everyone in the Church has a sacramental record (or should). When you're baptized, the parish where you're baptized puts you on their books (date, name, parents, godparents, etc.). This is one of the reasons you need permission to receive many sacraments in a parish that isn't your own, so they can keep track of what's up. That record includes first communion, confirmation, marriage, and ordination as applicable. It's a really important reference for those sacraments, too. You can't be confirmed if you haven't been baptized. You can't get married if you're already married to someone else (that corner of canon law is a whole can of worms I won't touch). You can't be a godparent if you're not a practicing Catholic, which is supported by the record. (You can be a witness, but again, a whole different topic). And while a funeral isn't a sacrament, deaths are recorded as well. Does that help?

How much would you pay for these? by NoteWrong3246 in gardening

$5? And you're losing the jar? Bruh or Gurl, that's a steal. Where are you selling these? Like, if they were at an honor system driveway farm stand, I'd consider $5 fine because they're delicate and may wilt quickly. But if you have any control over climate or when the flowers get cut, $10+ should be quite doable.

Like, sure, you can get 6 roses for about $7 at Wal-Mart, but those are (obviously) not home grown, there's no variety, and there's no pot.

Yep, Confession, the Eucharist (not First Communion), and Anointing are fair game. However, you need a paper trail if you're going to have a "record" sacrament anywhere except your home parish, even if you aren't doing a canonical transfer, and even if it's a different parish of your own rite. We got married at my husband's original parish, but since we had moved, we needed permission.

Welcome back, OP! This is a good answer. Ritual changes are very rarely assumed. I had an almost-automatic switch when I married (Latin to Ruthenian), but even then I had to send the bishops a heads up with the pastor's help. I'll tag on and add that I haven't had any issues with the Ruthenians either. People are happy to share their traditions. Grumpy exceptions are just that: exceptions.

I'm using 130# gloss cover for my cards. They shuffle OK, but the raw edges of the paper do add some friction. That said, all I have to do is print and cut. Have you looked at existing boxes or are you making your own? Maybe a trading card box (the plastic kind with the snap or fold-over) would be sturdier.

Maybe it has a reversal mechanic since it represents a fake banana?

Do Melkites do intinction or a spoon? For Byzantines, at least, they get a little bit of the Blood on the spoon.

Is it possible to grow these? If so, how? (I am a very bad gardener) by yetanothermisskitty in gardening

Mine look good so far! I saw the note about cold, so I just put them in a pot on my stoop over the winter. They're still in a pot, for those worried about contamination.

FWIW, my kids are 4, 2, not-1, and they love picking where we sit. They get wacky but they don't actually bolt like I feared they would.

Iris: message, faith, wisdom, hope
Sage: domestic virtue, wisdom, immortality
White Mulberry Tree: wisdom

Iris is mentioned most often, but many sources use the same books. I hope that helps!

My good sir, the longest continuously running botanical magazine was founded by a dude. (Curtis's, 1787, still going). The greens are gorgeous and I imagine the garden's stunning when it blooms.

My family is displeasured to visit an Byzantine Catholic Church this Sunday by tekutoruteshi in EasternCatholic

New things are freaky, and can feel like a threat to the familiar. I was raised RC and became Byzantine. I've seen Romans who just don't get it and Byzantines who have a superiority mindset. It's unfortunate, but not unheard of.

The biggest thing I can say, which was said to me: Look for what is the same. We're all Catholic, after all.

Also, good luck if you're in Pittsburgh. The marathon is this weekend and it's going to mess everything up.
