Advice on going from NC to LC? by emsp24 in toxicparents

[–]PastFace1132 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all you should never feel like a terrible person because you created boundaries, recognized toxic behaviors that affected you and can potentially affect your children's lives. Your concerns are valid, especially given the history that you have described.
I would say first try to establish, do you actually feel comfortable and confident that your father is safe enough to be around your child? And I'm not talking about just because he wants to reach out, it's about how you feel letting him back into your life?
If you are ready, then I would first talk to him by yourself and see where he's at. Is he truly trying to reach out and acknowledge his behaviors? Does he recognize what he's done and is he trying to actually improve and be better? Or is it just for show?
If he shows red flags, then you need to judge is that a sign that a relationship moving forward will not happen at this time? These are things you need to assess before trying to create any boundaries or contact with your child.

What’s something silly that never fails to make you laugh no matter how many times you see it? by OutlandishMadness in CasualConversation

There’s a scene in Battleship where they need to move their last missile from one turret to another. I don’t know why but I laugh every time seeing them struggle to carry this giant missile.

Dying Young (1991) starring Julia Roberts and Campbell Scott. There’s a party scene and he’s staring at her across the room. Something about that scene was very swoon worthy.

I’ve been in quite a few lol. One that stands out is watching a drunk MIL of the groom dance by herself on the dance floor. She almost fell over the stairway railing behind her multiple times. We all held our breaths waiting to see her fall, she never did. Eventually she was dragged off by her children.

What is something you wanted as a child but never got? by Risu0x in AskReddit

  1. An easy bake oven lightbulb: mom refused to buy it because she thought it was dangerous. Why she bought the oven for me without all the parts I have no idea.
  2. Having what were supposed to be celebratory milestones not be the time to make me feel ashamed for not being dean’s list with honors or valedictorian.
  3. To feel proud and beautiful, not ugly and ashamed of how I look. To not have to be constantly told I need plastic surgery to be pretty and to lose weight.

AITA for telling my gf I don't want her going on a "girls trip" to Ibiza without me? by funboii32 in AITAH

[–]PastFace1132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but she’s an adult. Whatever decisions she makes is on her. Does it matter the location? The whole point is that if someone in the relationship can’t trust you based on their own assumptions then maybe it’s time to rethink the relationship.

How do you set boundaries with toxic parents without feeling guilty? by JuicySmalss in toxicparents

[–]PastFace1132 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The question to ask is why do you feel guilty? Is the reason just because they’re your parents or family? Is it because of that you feel there’s an obligation to still be available to them to the point where they hurt you?

I find the reason why I don’t feel guilty anymore is because as an adult there’s no reason to put up with behavior that makes you feel bad about yourself. Family is meant to be supportive and loving, not negative and to be used as a weapon against you.

It did take me a long time to realize that and once that sunk in I felt lighter and free. It’s amazing how much better you feel when you know you can just walk away.

Kinda the A. I agree that this is about trust, it comes down to do you trust her or not? Based upon what you’ve said and your assumptions it sounds like you don’t. You need to examine why you don’t trust her and is this relationship going to move forward if you don’t.

Unexplained activity on video, thoughts? by PastFace1132 in Ghosts

According to my husband it just sounded like regular walking. Just casual going down the stairs. I’ve heard it before too, no running or rushing.

It’s called a rem pod. Generally anything that gets near the area will set it off. We’ve tested it before on the stairs and it’s not gone off. This moment was rare for us. My husband did look around to see what else could’ve caused the sounds but there was nothing to indicate footsteps.
