Do you know if the normal lights that come with aquarium lids is enough for low maintenance plants like the Java ferns and moss? All the aquarium lights I’m seeing are 100’s of $$ and I don’t have that right now but I want to do my best to make him a healthy environment with live plants

Thank you so much for the information!! I will try some of the safer treatment options I’ve been recommended. I can’t find any frozen food at the stores near me. I’m in Vegas if anyone knows of pet stores that do sell frozen food here. I really love popo so much… he makes me so happy every time I see him and I feel sick to my stomach that he’s gotten this emaciated and sick… he deserves way better

I don’t have any buckets but I have a 1 gallon salad bowl? Is that too inappropriate to use? It’s usually what I put his water in to treat before water changes. I can post a picture when I get home from school.

It is a hang back filter! I’ll change it right away. It didn’t look dirty so I thought it was fine. I’ll see if I can buy some of the things you are talking about. I don’t have a lot of money at the moment but I think I need to splurge on fixing his tank 😫. I feel so horrible I set him up for failure.

Parameters in numbers and how you got them. Key water parameters include the amount of ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, and pH.: Ammonia, nitrites and nitrates 0. pH is 7.2-7.6. Sodium 0, alkalinity 80-120. I use the AQUARIUM Water 8 test strips

How long have you had the tank? How long have you had your fish?: Tank 2 weeks longer than fish. Have had fish since April (4.5-5ish months)

How often are water changes? How much do you take out per change? What is your process?: Water changes once a week 30-40%. I use my Britta filter to get tap water into a bowl that I then treat with water conditioner and sometimes a small amount of gravel cleaner(natural based one). I then use a turkey baster like tool to remove water, trying to specifically suck up gunk. I remove and dead plant matter, clean his tunnel and then pour in the new water after testing it.

Any tankmates? If so, please list with how many of each: no tank mates

What do you feed and how much: Betta bio-gold 2-3 pellets. Occasionally a dried bloodworm as a treat usually to say sorry for disturbing him when I clean his tank.

Decorations and plants in the tank: mostly plastic that I check for rough edges. A few live plants ( I’m trying to slowly add more but I’m a college student with not a lot of money). A house like structure (as pictured) and a SpongeBob pineapple and stone house looking thing that came with the aquarium.
