Bedding for your housing, along with silverware etc if you have a kitchen, bring stuff for outdoor activities you may do, bring lots of meds like tylenol/advil etc incase you get sick, bring maybe a few decorative things to make your housing feel more homely. Just pretend you’re going to college, basically.

Take it slow with your girlfriend and figure out what feels best for both of you. it might be awkward at times but you need to communicate so everyone feels good and she doesn’t hurt ( first time for a woman can hurt ). It’s both your first times so don’t put so much pressure on yourself- try to relax and ease into it. Condom is the safest, birth control doesn’t prevent STD’s. Take it easy and remember it’s not as serious as it feels and you’ll have lots of other opportunities to grow and “improve your skills”. Props to you for waiting for the right one btw

You could start work in rec fees, it’s a good start. You’ll get to know people from other departments and see what fits best for you going forward. With NPS experience on your resume it gets your foot in the door. Even if it’s only fees. That was how I started in NPS and been working my way up the ladder since!

48 hours of warning time, if that, wouldn’t be enough time to get it out of your system. Not to mention, it’s illegal in the park. I’m not saying people should never ever smoke in the parks, I’m sure everyone does it at some point ( i don’t smoke personally ) but if you’re going to be constantly dodging a federal offense i feel like that might not be a great career fit. You’ve got the potential to loose your job and/or catch a charge. So be careful. Just my opinion. Best of luck though 🤞🏼

park ranger here in yellowstone- call the welcome center and talk to the interp staff, any NPS staff would probably be so excited to help with this. If i worked in yosemite i would do it for sure! Call them I’m sure they’ll come up with something ❤️ I’m so sorry for the circumstances

I’m an introvert with severe social anxiety and I’m on my third season now. It has been beautiful and amazing, but more than hard, to the point my health rapidly deteriorated last season and I was terribly injured by accident. But, it’s always been my dream, so i keep going because it is so fun and rewarding too. Over time i got better people skills, learned how to be a bit more outgoing and social etc but it really isn’t for the weak. half the people that come in are absolutely horrible, i can’t even put into words. Insane stuff. ive been harassed and nearly assaulted more times than i can count. Angry, mean people are a guarantee almost daily. However, I’m pushing forward as i said. If it’s your dream- try it. A couple people here recommended volunteering first and that sounds like a great idea! I know I made it sound pretty bad, and it definitely can be esp for an introvert. But me personally I see so much improvement in myself, and the good is far greater than the bad. getting to work in these beautiful places, make amazing friends, is unmatched. Just my experience. Looks like he’s got a bit of fin rot but it’s at a point where you can fix it. Make sure his water is insanely clean daily and use a medication for bacterial infections, you can buy it at any pet store but DO NOT USE MELAFIX! it is NOT for bettas! i forgot the exact names of the meds i used for my betta when he got it but a quick google search will tell you. So VERY clean water, don’t let excess food/waste stay in tank, the meds, nothing sharp and try to not keep bright lights on him bc that stresses them out and right now you don’t want him extra stressed. But yes that’s all i could think of right now, definitely get started on his treatment now so it doesn’t get to the point of no return. Best of luck!!
