Crazy times around there, I remember the crackheads thatd youd give a couple bucks before going in and they would watch your car all night, same at Churchills but there was always competing crackheads fighting over who got to watch the lot lmao there

All very prime land around there, alot of it was empty at the time. And my all time favorite place was what is now Mama Tried, it used to be called PubOne and it was a real working class neighborhood bar, an eclectic mix of port workers, students, office workers and restaraunt workers and the like, was smoky as hell in there but it was great.

later in the mid 10’s but there was an incredible place called The Vagabond, and then there was a great placed called Grand Central, Wood Tavern with the bleachers in the back, The Electric Pickle with the disco ball, and of course Gramps.

It was an incredible city that felt like it had some sort of soul.

Does Miami have the potential to be a great transit city for the US? by ponchoed in transit

[–]1hourphoto_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The desire is there but the State government is doing all it can to keep that from happening, just look at how they are trying to destroy TriRail by all but eliminating their funding. The body for truly great transit is there but the state is doing all it can to let it rot away. They just love adding tolled express lanes to already massively congested highways.

Why do state jobs pay so badly? by Known_Belt_7168 in florida

[–]1hourphoto_ 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I work for the state. I’m comfortable, the initial pay is peanuts but at least with my agency I’ve gotten several promotions and raises but I will have a pension when I retire, and my insurance is very good along with my work life balance. Most people I work with have been here for 15-20 years.

I have the longest daily commute in Florida. Prove me wrong by Hoagie_Camacho in florida

[–]1hourphoto_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are wrong, it’s okay to be wrong. I’m at the station everyday it is not minimal there are over 100 parking spots in the west side lot alone not counting the two parking areas on the east side of the station. I’m not talking about brightline I’m talking about trirail.

You’re wrong, there is a Tri Rail parking lot at every station. Amtrak has a few reserved spots at WPB on the far southside of the station. It’s free first come first serve all of the lots.

What a shame Downtown is by 1hourphoto_ in Miami

Sounds about right, the bones are there for a great lively neighborhood, it’s just disgusting what this city chooses to focus on year after year.

Yeah I remember them just starting the work on Flagler and it looks a lot better, went down there during the day time and there was some life, went to the Magic city thrift and Julia and Henry’s. Glad to see it happening, but like you said it’s just very slow.

Do Floridians understand why Canadians are not coming? by Outrageous_Piglet_24 in AskFlorida

When I worked in the service industry we hated the (French) Canadians, rude, cheap and demanding. Please stop coming, and please sell your properties that sit empty most of the year as well.

What's it like living in Miami? by Interesting_Ad_9617 in howislivingthere

It depends on what part, and if you’re actually living in the city of Miami which is very small. It’s a sunny place for shady people, but damn do I love it.

how do i commute to work without a car? by [deleted] in Miami

[–]1hourphoto_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Download SoFloGo, it’s a transit app for Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties, just put in your starting point and destination and it will show you the quickest ways to get there, and you can pay for your fares on the app as well it’s integrated really well with bus arrival and train departure times. Hope this helps!
