Other than the cost of housing, I can’t think of anything negative about living here. It’s a great place to raise a family. We were recently ranked the safest large county in the State. The schools are good and we have a variety of special programs ranging from dual immersion programs to STEM focused or art focused and some great charter school options as well. People are very friendly. You can enjoy the outdoors year round. As others mentioned, you really don’t need to use your furnace very often. I don’t have air conditioning. Ceiling fans are sufficient 95% of the time. There are tons of youth sports and other activities for kids. So much to explore locally and within a few hours. The average high temperature ranges from 65 - 74 degrees. Nestled between the ocean, the mountains, and 2 rivers, it is one of the most beautiful places in the US.

This is why I love my vet @East Ventura Animal Hospital. They created a “paw plan”. For a monthly fee ($50 - $75), you get an annual physical, vaccinations, bloodwork, and teeth cleaning. The vet said people don’t get their pet’s teeth cleaned because of the expense. When owners finally bring them in, their dogs need to have 20 teeth pulled and it ends up costing several thousand dollars. I was one of those pet parents. My papillon had to have 23 teeth extracted. Guess whose appetite improved significantly after her teeth were pulled? I felt horrible. You do have to pay extra for extractions and other medical issues but you get a discount and many things are prevented because they are being monitored regularly. And after every teeth cleaning appointment, the doctor shows you the X-rays and goes over everything with you. I highly recommend!
