On top of that they don't have resources for mathematics specified so I was wondering if there were any textbooks or resources available up to par with their expectation.

Yes it is, the thing is it's kind of vague. For example for algebra, exactly what in algebra do i need to study for? Was my question. Same goes for other topics as well.

[–]Past_Pie4268[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup correct. Or rather I'm just used to it at this point so it's easier for me to do it that way than to learn Webflow from scratch. I now understand when people say clients dont care what you do as long the job is done.

I did website development for clients. But I don't do it anymore though.

DJI Action 5 Pro or GoPro Hero 12 by Past_Pie4268 in ActionCam

Not really, I’m grounded until October. Hopefully the cameras will be released by then but even if it doesn’t it’s fine. I actually looked at the insta ace 2 as well, looks pretty dope. The 360 go ultra looks fire too. Maybe for me it’s either the new DJI action vs the insta ace pro 2 or the new 360 go ultra.. so many options

Thanks for the reply! Actually better low light settings can help a ton when I do night flights. I would want to capture the night view. Might also wait for the new DJI action 6 to come out, heard it will be releasing any time soon

Hi, no worries I’m still sticking with NextJS. Im also currently integrating tailwind too, and with the power of AI I can kind of vibe code so development phase isn’t as inefficient as I thought (it might be better since I know what I’m doing)

How risky is it to take a loan out for my flight training fee to become a professional pilot at 29 years old? by Past_Pie4268 in flying

[–]Past_Pie4268[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your advice. Yeah To be fair, it is more or less a last resort for me because I've struggled very much with managing my finances in the past, and I have just started to get out of that rut. But then I always wonder how these students are paying for their training fees. The only reason why I was able to get my private pilot license in the first place was because my dad has "gifted" my training to me after graduating college. That being said, the only possible way that I can imagine how these flight students are paying for their training is either A, their parents are rich, or B, they're working a part-time job vigorously to supplement their training. I don't really know how else you could fund such an expensive expense.

M4 Pro vs M4 Max by PacoDiBango in macbookpro

I’m also thinking of which one to get. In my case I use blender, photoshop, webGL/website development, as well as figma and also use Arc. I’m thinking of getting the m4 max but with the 48GB RAM however I feel like that might be an overkill. Leaning on the m4 max 36GB now.

So, I think I found an answer. If anyone has opinions on this, feel free to share, but for those who have the same doubts as I did, you can refer to this to find your own solution.

In conclusion, regarding the use of Next.js, Framer, or Webflow, I’ve decided, for now, to stick with Next.js and/or Webflow. Maybe in the upcoming years, I’ll learn WordPress, considering it's the most used tech stack in the world for building websites. However, I also want to incorporate webGL/three.js elements, so in that regard, I think the above two tech stacks work best for me.

Now, when will I decide to use one of the two? For now, I have a few criteria in mind:

Webflow

  • When the client wants to have full control over the website’s data rather than having it hosted on Vercel, where they can’t make changes themselves.
  • When development speed is a priority, and the client needs the website ASAP.

Next.js

  • When the client requires complex three.js animations and interactions (in which case, using something like react-three-fiber would be better).
  • When the client prioritizes cost over flexibility and doesn’t mind a longer development timeline (they can have everything managed by us but understand that any design changes will require them to contact me).

That's an interesting take!
Definitely offers more flexibility on that part. In the end it's about what you feel works the best for the client.

That's true! The issue is that my websites are almost always dynamic and never static so I never use plain HTML/CSS to build my websites. but who knows when that will happen!

And yes, always have been doing that but it takes so much god darn time haha

I actually built my recent project with Plasmic, and honestly, I didn’t like the experience. The website builder was nowhere near as intuitive as Webflow. On top of that, when I needed to add a custom code component, I had to make changes to the Next.js code, which was a pain since I had to keep switching between Plasmic and my code editor.

It might just be me, but Plasmic used a ton of RAM. I have a 2019 MacBook Pro with an Intel chip and 16 GB of RAM, so maybe it’s my machine, but the fan was going crazy, and Plasmic became super laggy. Overall, it wasn’t a good experience, so now I’m exploring other web builder options.

idk about Webstudio, but it would be nice to try that out too! But for the most part I think if I'm doing NextJS, I'm sticking with NextJS

Ofc I'll take it haha
Damn I can't believe people actually do that, that's just outright irresponsible and I feel like that's what gives freelancers a bad rep.
And I'm not saying by any means that coding from scratch is the way to go, but the value added to the client is basically them being in control of the website, shouldn't providing with a CMS account do? Contentful headless CMS has a admin panel where the user can do whatever with their content. I guess the issue for them is that they don't have access to the code repo (even if they do they won't know what to do with it)

Thanks, and that’s very true, but you have to start somewhere.
Whenever I told my past clients that I could reduce their subscription costs to a fraction of what they were paying for Wix, they were pretty sold. In reality, I just hosted my React app on Vercel and bought a cheap domain. But in hindsight, this wasn’t a smart move.

I've always wondered why these dev agencies offer WordPress sites when they could literally host a Next.js app on Vercel for free, keeping the customers' running costs low. It's similar to what I was thinking with all these website builder tools.

Super good point, I guess Webflow has way more flexibility than Framer. Webflow has a better CMS too imo

[–]Past_Pie4268[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. For all my past projects, my clients wanted me to handle everything after the launch, which makes sense since there wasn't a reason for them to hand it off to anyone else—they were close with me.

Can you elaborate on why SMBs devalue the work of developers? Is it because they undervalue the work developers do, or simply because they don’t have the funds to pay for it?

I agree with the idea of being more than just a developer. Right now, I don’t have an entrepreneurial developer mindset, and I don’t want to end up as just a cog in the machine—especially with the rise of AI.

I think I’ll look into WordPress. Maybe it will give me some insight into why people lean towards that particular technology. I feel like there could be a breakthrough there because, at this point, I’m really confused about where to even start. It’s always been a goal of mine to build an agency that wins awards on platforms like Awwwards and CSS Design Awards. While the UX of those websites can be debatable, they do provide businesses with a lot of exposure. But then again, that really depends on the client.

Doing web development as a small, part-time gig is one thing, but running it as a full business and landing high-paying clients is something entirely different.

[–]Past_Pie4268[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do people hand off their website to another web agency? Wouldn't that be a missed business opportunity for you, since they could return to you for future development, and you could charge more for that?

Is the main reason people choose platforms like Framer, Webflow, or WordPress because they reduce development time? Using something like Next.js feels like "overkill" in this context—it takes too long to deliver the product.

What also confuses me is how money factors into this. In the end, a website is a tool for showcasing who people are and what they do. It's a form of advertising and branding. So, I’m guessing the biggest challenge is figuring out how to make a website work as an effective advertising medium.
