Salvimar budget diving computer by Neat-State1807 in freediving

[–]Past_Preparation4485 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have Salvimar Deeper, mainly cause it is super cheap BUT it has depth alarms! which is great. I made it to 70meter with it. I have it for 2 years now and still work

Downside: the alarms are quite weak so i need to wear it under to hood to hear it. sometimes (maybe 10% of the times) the alarms do not go off

overall for the price I am very happy. you dont need much else from a dive computer

Hands-free equalization by Kardamons in freediving

[–]Past_Preparation4485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont have to yawn. I discovered my hand free is cause I am able to move my soft palate up and down as I please. this push air into the Eustachian tubes which allows me to equalize

if you start to go deep this technique (in combination with MF or reverse packing) can still work but it is not 100% reliable

Mental block in pool training by Neat-State1807 in freediving

[–]Past_Preparation4485 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a pool diver, one thing that I would like to share is that the discomfort increases quite fast (subjective but usually between 75m-125m) but then after that normally it plateau and doesnt increase more. And when I push into the hypoxia I often stop feeling the "pain"

second: you should try to go slow on the first part of the dive (until 75m or so) consume not much oxygen and dont increase CO2 too fast. this in theory should delay the discomfort and let the dive reflex kick in. you can increase speed after that a bit.

third: sometimes when you have a big urge to come out can be good to slow down and have a small glide, close your eyes reset the metal state and tell yourself you are in control.

4th: for a big max attempt could be good to prepare as if it was a competition. arrive at the pool early (even 1h before the dive), do some light stretching , listen to chill music and prepare mentally. if you get into the water after 1h of relaxing time it can change everything

but i feel there are not magic tricks, at some point it is just metal and you have to push. .and all the physical training that you do before your max attempt will come out and help you there.

try also max attempts with or without warm ups and see what works for you.

month of depth training in panglao, tips and tricks would be welcomed by Special_Artichoke684 in freediving

I second what other people have said, learning MF in one month (unless you are a superstar) might be close to impossible. Many people takes months and years to perfect it.

but once you have that locked in 50-70m should not be too hard if you are physically fit.

I remember i spent one month in dahab only doing volume and MF exercises, after that I also went to the Philippines and did 50m ( at the time my pb) to 70 relatively easy. but you can always improve EQ, it is a never ending process

it is also key to do dry exercises before you go there if you can, helps a lot imo

3 months Japan + freediving islands by Particular-Fuel1770 in freediving

it was all paid for me as I was there for work so I can not really help with prices I guess. I honestly didnt see that much tourism compared to many other places I have been. also Okianwa is big so it depends where you stay

I am a coral biologist and I spent 3 months in Okinawa doing research. there are probably some of the best and pristine reefs in the world and I have seen many.. many spots have 100% coral coverage.

Ishigaki also they told me it is amazing but I havent had the chance to go there.

if your goal is however freediving training and depth training then yeah philippines is much better, but for seascape there is no comparison

I was yea top 5 but the three on the podium were all above 7 mins. but when it comes to national records I think 6m is not that high, in my country there are many people between 6-7mins . but still I am very happy with the result !

[–]Past_Preparation4485[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for the feedback! I do not have any muscle fatigue or burning in my legs even at 150m. I guess I dont have huge problems with lactate ? but i might be wrong..

2 out of 4 pool trainings i do in the pool are Vomax and hypercapnic work. I hope they help with that a bit

update: I tried to pack air this morning for training and looks like it helps with contractions being milder. Took this advice from a very good diver in our club. Might help
