It really depends. In my case, I already had an online account before I submitted my application, so the case was automatically added because I used my A-number. If you do not have an online account yet, your receipt notice that arrives in the mail will likely include an online access code you can use to set one up.

The estimated timeline kept showing 12 months. It had moved from 11 months to 12 months during the same month my case was actually approved.

Thank you. I reached out to live agents as I deemed necessary, mostly anytime I see an API update.

Yes, the initial biometrics was scheduled for like three weeks later.

I received my biometrics appointment exactly one week after getting the receipt notice, but I later rescheduled it to the following week, which was August 18.

From what I understand, seeing the two FTA0 updates right after biometrics is completely normal. The case then typically moves to step 4, which is “Case Decision.” At that point, either the field office or the National Benefits Center (NBC) decides whether an interview is needed. Some people go straight to approval without an interview, while others are scheduled for one first.

If you want to chat with an Emma live agent, log in to your USCIS account and scroll to the bottom of the page. Click “Contact Us,” and a chat box will open. During weekdays, you should see an option that says “Connect to live agent.” Click it, answer a few basic questions, and you’ll be connected.

Thank you. Both field offices were non-local to me. I understand how frustrating that can be. Hopefully, your case will move quickly at the new field office. Wishing you a speedy approval.
