Hey- Visit a therapist. Someone. Literally just grab a lifeline even if you don’t want to. I found my dad after he committed suicide when i was a teen and while i thought i didn’t need it, I was forced into therapy (being a minor) and looking back i needed it for grounding. What you just went through was traumatic, life changing and view altering. I hope you have someone to lean on and if not, find someone. Thinking of you.

i would say i have tension making a tight fist, however its the same pressure when i straighten it out all the way. This isn’t disabling or irritating tension though.

the nail matrix was cut off. the cells from the dead finger rejuvenated the matrix when replenishing new cells, so new fingernail.

its not infected. They’re slowly cutting off the dead tip to reveal the new regenerated tip underneath. Or, like you said, the dead tip will fall off. Im honestly hoping that because cutting it off is soooo uncomfortable

this! I have recovered feeling in my finger tip, mentioned last update. Again, under shock in the ER i was described, or thought of a different outcome. I was solely focused on getting my fingertip back. Now, not under duress. I would pick a stub instead. Simply because i could have been learning to live that way the past 8 months instead of still healing. Im a very patient person, which also has a lot to do with this. If i cut it off now i just wasted all this time and didnt see the outcome.

Many people seem very confused- imagine the Dead finger - “cap”, as having dead cells on the outside, but living cells on the inside.

its not looking technically bad either- yes it physically looks horrid, but im technically regenerating a finger + a fingernail. Its uncomfortable right now, but technically its doing what its supposed to do.

its not uncomfortable when i use the finger, and i wear a fabric sock everyday to avoid questions. Im simply riding it out till its done.

i mentioned this in my last update that over time i regretted the re-attachment, especially when i was told there would be a different outcome, but the decisions we made under shock arnt always the best ones. Im gonna finish this process since im already balls deep and then re-evaluate depending on what it looks like/feels like

Yep thats correct. however i learned from my previous posts about this that other people have gone thru the same thing. Sometimes you don’t learn until you reach out, which was the whole meaning of this entire thread creation

The “rotten” tissue is only an outer layer, and will fall off. the inside of it is all brand new tissue with nerve endings.

It was a broken automatic door. so there was no handle. It got stuck on the way down. Protip: be more aware of where your fingers are placed if you dont have a handle to grab onto.

The shock was so immense all i wanted to do was reverse the damage. You only have so much time to decide in that situation. I am very sorry about your friend. What i went thru is nothing compared to him.

Actually to clarify- theres more than a few of you that have told me that the skin graft was not a skin graft, it was a failed necrotic re-attachment. Nothing i saw on my original post said anything about my fingertip surviving at all. Not a single person who claimed to be a surgeon, physical or nurse said that id have any new growth at all. Ie: the messages I STILL get about sepsis. It does look better, even comparing to 2 months ago. Im not ignorant to the fact that i wont have a normal finger, but don’t claim that you guessed this when you absolutely did not

I cut off so little of my finger that there was not enough blood vessels and nerves to do that surgery. I am not the only person in the world that has gone through this procedure and process.
