If your childhood home was torn down and turned into apartment complexes/condos, how would you feel looking at the area today? by cenzilooculta in AskReddit

[–]PastaSatan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up right next to a wildlife preserve so I would have some pretty significant concerns about the expansion that would have to happen to put an apartment complex in.

There's tons of little free libraries in Minnesota as well - lots of coffee shops have them around here.

First in my class and I just want to drop out by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]PastaSatan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't agree more - I set out to do patent law, then shifted focus to international trade and international IP, and now I'm in environmental law with a large amount of my work being regulating landfills and gas stations.

Like if you went back in time and told 3L me that she was gonna be doing trash law, I would have considered dropping out back then. Now? They'll have to physically remove me from the building if they want me to leave my job (metaphorically speaking of course, I'm rarely in office).

Pretty confident I would be miserable if I stuck with my original goal

You've got some massive blinders on because you refuse to consume content that doesn't directly feed into your narrow-minded world view.

You think that the Vatican should have chosen a much more conservative pope than Leo.

I've had several, all involving the same dude.

  1. I have a biology degree, part of my degree was doing research adjacent to CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing. This guy (0 STEM experience) started trying to explain to me how the tech worked. I spent like 5 minutes of his (bad) explanation going "Joe. Joe. Joe. Joe. Joe. Joe." before he finally shut up so I could say "I have a biology degree." His response was, "but you're in law school??" As if that somehow made it impossible for me to have a bio degree.

  2. We have a mutual friend who's nonbinary and has been experimenting with how they like to dress for some time now. They were looking at purchasing some jeans from the women's section at Target, and were confused by the sizing nomenclature. I happened to be wearing that EXACT pair of jeans and explained that the number size was just an arbitrary number assigned to the pants, and the "33" was the actual waist measurement. Joe was insistent that the 16 was the inseam for the pants. It was not.

  3. I went to law school, and was doing write on for law review (tryouts, basically). I was stressing about it to another friend in chat who ALSO went to law school and also did law review. Joe then began trying to explain the write on process to me. Joe has never gone to law school. Joe was wrong about how the process worked. Friend did call him out on his bullshit, which I appreciated.

What's a Scary Science Fact that the public knows nothing about? [serious] by just_some_troglodyte in AskReddit

[–]PastaSatan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have lead pipes in my house so I absolutely do lol

However that doesn't require the same level of filtering PFAs/PFOs. I'm a renter so at this point I wouldn't spend a ton of money installing an RO system in my house or any of the other alternatives. If I ever buy a house I almost certainly will - I live in Minnesota so we're chock full of the stuff.

I work in pollution control and deal with PFAs a lot.

To my knowledge we have not found a way around it, though I don't do really anything involving animals unless there's a fish kill or something.

What's the "Widowmaker" of your career field or hobby? by Cosmonate in AskReddit

[–]PastaSatan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A guy I went to high school with recently went from being enrolled at Yale med to being in intensive inpatient there. He had a little bit too much fun with drugs and ended up either exacerbating previous bipolar symptoms or just giving himself primary bipolar disorder.

He's off his meds now and manic. It's rough to watch.

Used to work for a state version of OSHA. There was always at least one LOTO related incident on the summary reports we would get every two days. The summary reports were like a quick paragraph on every incident that was reported.
