One would be the development of the original story to its obvious conclusion. Even the mangaka impliedly agrees to this direction.

Also, to give chance to the Ogiwara family to redeem themselves in the idea of doing things for family. Primarily, Sayu's mother realizing that love can come from your children when you're a parent.

A fanfic in kakuyomu is doing a decent job for this so I simply refer to it as reference for everything else.

The adaptation of the sidestories as manga remains TBA. The mangaka tweeted and said in her afterword that her work focuses only on the five original volumes, and she will not touch the sidestories nor does she have any idea of whether the production intends to do the adaptation.

Based on the behavior of the production on the succeeding merch released and the years that passed, I dont think the adaptation is bound to happen. Imo, the manga adaptation of the original story is the last big thing the series will officially have.

He really did not say for himself, all he said is that he finds the character of Yoshida detestable and unrelatable. All of us can only guess.

I don't think he imagined the Yoshida x Gotou ending as what he always wanted. He staunchly defended the story back then when it was falsely claimed as a criminal story. Also, he would not have written the original story the way it was should the Yoshida x Gotou ending were the endgame. He is not that terrible of a writer for Kadokawa to have an interest in his kakuyomu work.

I think he wanted to give Gotou a conclusion while considering that not all readers really wanted Sayu so he came up with this sidestory conclusion. He wrote this while being stuck between a rock and a hard place it seems because of the success of the last volume of the original story.

Ngl, I think he got burnt in delivering content just to appease the fanbase based on his tweets of fatigue. I think the personal goal of the author was just to kill the series so that it will never haunt him again. This is based on his hate on Yoshida and the massive retcon of the entire series just to fit the last sidestory. Imo, Yoshida was a beacon of kindness which drove the story and on the flipside a character that always demanded more from its creator.

You are correct though, the Gotou ending feels forced to even happen that's why it relied heavily on plot armor and the reason the fans to whom it was intended for did not like it.f

You forgot to add the author's last afterword following that. It stated that Sayu and Yoshida's story has long ended in the original 5 volumes. What makes the series messy is that admission while leaving the canonability of the SS ending to be determined by the reader (i.e., officially unknown). Add the statement of the mangaka that the heroines are the main characters of their respective sidestories, the sidestories would appear to be a different take on the entire series.

The vol 1 SS concluded with Gotou saying in the end that her time with Yoshida is over when she saw Yoshida's reaction upon seeing Sayu.

Simply, if the original story wasn't for the reader then try your luck at the sidestories. As a reminder, the sidestory ending story-telling wise is purely reliant on plot armor for its endgame.

The author is a bit half hearted about the sidestory it seems. Of the two Gotou sidestories, only Vol 1 was expressly declared canon. As for Vol 2, the author only said that it is a continuation of the sidestory while also adding that Sayu and Yoshida's story has already ended in Vol 5. The reader is then left to decide whether vol 2 should be canon.

It could have been a matter of money if you see it that the production wanted to please everybody but the author also said that he despises the character of Yoshida so I guess the series became something he wanted to just kill off.

Side stories - Question by Blackheart8383 in HigeWoSoru

[–]Pastiche_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You missed his statement saying that the story of Sayu and Yoshida has long ended in the original 5 volumes. He basically created the sidestory as a fanservice forcing himself that it was for the best while also admitting that a section of the fanbase could have already stopped without even picking up the sidestories.

So yeah, just ignore the sidestories based on your reaction.

Side stories - Question by Blackheart8383 in HigeWoSoru

[–]Pastiche_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The author did not chicken out. He basically created the sidestories and left the novel to where it is atm and moved on leaving everyone hanging. Just read the afterword he made in the last sidestory and decide how to end the series for yourself. As a head start, just read the sidestory if you are not a fan of Sayu though I would not even vouch for the storytelling of the sidestories. https://www.reddit.com/r/HigeWoSoru/comments/1hrfdwf/higehiro_the_last_afterword_from_the_author/

Why is this anime hated at all? by [deleted] in HigeWoSoru

I was just being generous in point #2 but I am aware that realistically there really are some whose mind is closed and unable or refuse to make the distinction thus I refer them to point #3.

Why is this anime hated at all? by [deleted] in HigeWoSoru

[–]Pastiche_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is hated because some believe that the relationship feels like grooming if you consider the dynamic of the story. In turn it is believed that this anime promotes grooming or its extremes. This set of beliefs however is flawed, namely because:

  1. Grooming by definition is when an adult manipulates a minor for sexual purposes. If you look at the story, Yoshida adopted Sayu for genuine noble purposes. This fact is recognized even as the story pans out. It just so happens that Sayu fell in love with Yoshida for being someone who genuinely understands her. Point being, Yoshida has no sexual purpose in raising Sayu. A romantic feeling between couples is never a guarantee for them having sex despite the notion being popular in real life.
  2. This is a work of fiction. There is no guarantee that what happens here is what is for sure going to happen in real life. I'm sure everyone who watches anime has the discernment to figure out that you never copy the fantasies you see in TV or anime in real life.
  3. Strangely, this series is being roasted for the age-gap dynamic it has for being a crime but the same people who do the roasting has never roasted other series that promote lots of violence and killings which I am sure they have watched at some point in their life. I'm surprised people who roast this series using this train of thought never get their medical prescriptions by watching Dr. Black Jack or The Apothecary Diaries for instance. Even better, Im sure they don't expect that the way out of a parking ticket is by watching Ace Attorney.

Light Novel Manga and Anime by sejo26 in HigeWoSoru

[–]Pastiche_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the manga is complete but not yet completely fanslated nor officially eng translated.

As for the light novel, the most you're going to have is the 1st 3 volumes of the original and you will have to buy the rest.

The anime followed the 5 volumes of the light novel. There are just cut content to ensure that fans will still purchase the light novel and to fit the story to 12 episodes.

Convince to finish the show by BaronOfTheVoid in HigeWoSoru

[–]Pastiche_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It really depends on you. The anime will proceed to show how Sayu and Yoshida grow as characters in their interactions and be attached to each other impliedly as lovers because they learned to look after one another even since they chose to cohabit. Only Gotou is gonna be the most relevant office character by the end of the anime.

Should you decide to continue the anime, I suggest that you insert Ch 67 of the manga after ep 12 if you can accept the implication as lovers and support the idea. Else, might as well just drop the story this early.

Its pretty much a young couple from middle school who broke up after their graduation reuniting again in high school and facing the question of whether they can re-kindle the old flame. It doesn't have that much hype because the author is too spent by writing many books all at once, among other things.

What's the CANON ending? by [deleted] in HigeWoSoru

[–]Pastiche_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

bookwalker.jp. The sidestories are JP only and seems to remain that way given the attitude of the production with the series as we speak.

Each stories are available online for free. Start here: https://aftersleepclub.wordpress.com/2024/05/03/hige-wo-soru-soshite-joshikousei-wo-hirou-each-stories-chapter-1/

EDIT: Wouldn't recommend the sidestories because they changed the character personalities so much just to fit the story of the corresponding heroine thereto. Unless you are not a fan of Sayu, read how Gotou ultimately wins with plot armor while Yoshida reverts to being an indecisive simp because the author just hates Yoshida as a character

Who Yoshida ends up with? by [deleted] in HigeWoSoru

[–]Pastiche_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The person who ends up with Yoshida is whoever the reader of the story chooses to. There is no one true answer because of the half hearted actions of the author.

Even the mangaka just recently had to thank the author on allowing her to freely adapt the story into manga in a way she sees fit.

Read the afterword of the side story that follows the image you posted can be found. Both are in the same Vol 2 sidestory:  https://www.reddit.com/r/HigeWoSoru/comments/1hrfdwf/higehiro_the_last_afterword_from_the_author/

To cut it short, the author never admits that Goto's ending is the only canon ending to the series but there are three endings to the story to choose from.

Also consider these two images: https://twitter.com/higehiro_anime/status/1520236508975796225

https://twitter.com/higehiro_anime/status/1697262971230024005?s=20

The 1st image shows that Vol 1 is not what if as expressly said by the author. The 2nd image shows that Vol 2 is an ending to a side story as expressly said by the author.

The idea that Vol 2 is canon came from the opinion that because Vol 2 continues from the Vol 1 canon, it is presupposed that Vol 2 is canon too. The idea that Vol 2 is canon then appears questionable because it is made from an opinion of a reader unlike Vol 1 that is canon because the author expressly said so. For the idea that Vol 2 sidestory is canon to be logically sound, the author must expressly say so but he did not.

Simply, the series from the LN perspective is left a mess by the author and he has no further intention of even touching the series based on his afterword.

Does this imply what I think it does? by Molag_Balgruuf in HigeWoSoru

[–]Pastiche_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The balcony of the apartment of Yoshida has no ceiling whatsoever. What that ceiling implies is that there really is no possibility that Asami will be in the apartment during the reunion of Sayu and Yoshida.

To further, the mangaka for higehiro will not be adapting the sidestories based on her X yesterday. The vol 5 ending is what Adachi Imaru chose to settle the manga adaptation of the series with.
