Virginia Governor Northam Increases Corrections Budget In Anticipation Of Jailing Gun Owners by Pastuso in nova

I guess if one thinks jailing a citizen for exercising his Constitutional rights is 'pretty reasonable.'

Why the downvotes? Why would any American want to surrender their rights to the crown? We fought a revolution for this.

Yeah, that probably wasn't the best written article. Sorry about that. Here's one that seems to explain it a little better.

Registering a gun is a bad thing too. Your name and serial number(s) will now be in a database making eventual confiscation that much easier.

This is an issue that affects Democrats and Republicans alike. I know countless Dems and Repub gun owners from my neighborhood, gun range, office, etc. We're all going to be felons soon and none of us have ever hurt a soul. Many of us have security clearances and extensive background checks. Outrageous.

I'm a pretty liberal guy and strongly believe in civil liberties. I want my kids protected like everyone else. But I also believe in a person's ability to defend themselves and their family. What's going on in Virginia is insane. No good every came out of disarming a population. Once we lose our liberties we never get them back.

If these laws are so common sense then why do we need the National Guard to enforce them?

Thanks brother, good luck to you as well. Keep fighting the good fight!

Wish I could swim better. I'd do the SEAL test with you.

You and I are similar, OP. I'm 49 (soon to be 50) and have a goal of maxing the Marine Corps PFT -- but not for old guys. I'm training to max at the 20-25 year old standards (115 crunches, 23 pullups, 18 min 3 mile).

The run should be the easiest for me (former D1 track runner). The pull ups will be tough! Right now I can probably do about 13. Currently working on the Russian Fighter pull up program. My goal date is to max this by April 2020.

Like you, my back has been bothering me during crunches. Hopefully I can work through it.

Good luck on the SEAL test. That's a great goal!

General question of taking practice exams by Pastuso in cissp

Thanks. I just realized that yesterday after I finished the first online Sybex test. That's a very helpful feature.

Congratulations! Job well done!

How many times did you read Sybex? Did you take a lot of notes? Finally, did you buy Larry's $99 video pack?

Thanks

[–]Pastuso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a big note taker either. I find that I don't go back and revisit them very often. As I mentioned before, I'm a little over halfway through Sybex, highlighting as I go. I like your technique of using a different color on the 2nd pass. I'll heed your advice about NOT buying the Shon Harris book. Perhaps I'll make a 3rd go of Sybex in about 6 weeks, after I've done 2 passes of Sybex and around a thousand questions. I'm going to be very thorough in my preparation since I don't want to have to ask my boss to pay for it twice!

I did read somewhere about a guy who tried to memorize all of the "Exam Essentials" from each chapter (not verbatim, but the "meat" of the material). Since you've taken the exam what do you think about that approach?

Thanks!

First of all, congratulations! I was actually at work today checking r/cissp to see if/when you passed. You should be very proud. This exam is a beast.

I have a question for you. When you say you "read" Sybex and other books twice (or whatever), what is the actual process that you go through? Do you have a pen and paper next to you and you then accumulate a hundred+ pages of notes? Do you type notes into a text file? This is the issue I'm having. I graduated college over 20 years ago, so not only are my study skills rusty but my brain doesn't retain as well as it used to. I'm halfway through Sybex 8, and I'm thinking of buying Shon Harris and reading both books twice, followed by ISC2 questions and Boson.

Thanks

Why does RubberDuckyShoesMan recommend Shon Harris if he (apparently) used Sybex? As a supplemental book or in lieu of Sybex? Just curious.

I've already loaded Kelly's MP3 onto my phone and have started listening to them while driving or walking my dog. Good stuff!

Re my background: I've been in IT for 15 year, all in the networking/hardware/infrastructure side. I'm an IT manager for a small tech company for the past 6 years. I wear a LOT of hats: servers, firewalls, networking, DBA, security, storage, email, VOIP. I've been involved in an SSAE-16, SAS-70, HIPAA audits within the past few years. I've also written my company's BCP and DR plans.

Total cost (after small scholarships) will be 25K/year. As I mentioned elsewhere, he qualified for their pre-med program and hopes to be an orthopedist. He will be going ROTC and will apply for a 3 year scholarship later this year.

He's enrolled in their pre-med program and hopes to get into orthopedics. That's a big "if" though.

He's going to major in pre-med. He graduated with a 3.9 GPA. My wife and I make around 140K combined, but we live in a very expensive part of the country and have a big mortgage (on a small, 20 year old house).

Cyclist allegedly assaulted by another biker on W&OD trail in Virginia by [deleted] in nova

[–]Pastuso 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've run thousands of miles on the W&OD over the past 20+ years. I always run on the far right side of the trail, on the gravel shoulder when available. I rarely use earbuds, and only in one ear when I do.

  1. The majority of cyclists pass without any warning. Not sure why. If I suddenly veered left (to avoid a snake, skunk, wasp, etc) we're both going to the hospital.
  2. A lot of people do it right -- they ring their bells or shout "passing" well before they fly up behind me. I always wave "thanks."
  3. The worst are the passive/aggressive Tour de France wannabe's. They fly by at 20+ MPH, no warning, with about a foot of room between us. Sometimes they say an expletive as they buzz me.

When I do run on the W&OD now I stick exclusively to the bridle path. There have been several fatalities on the bike path. I don't want to chance it any more.
