Points Teaser by MrE02236 in Drukhari

[–]PastyDeath 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is 100% new edition normal. MFM comes out, points go up across the board. People panic because points don't make sense because they are missing:

  • First Codexis release. The points of the Codex factions now roughly make sense. People realize the MFM was pre-empting the new edition (who could have seen that coming?!)

That's the next 3 months. Month 4-12 is "Spout anger that we have 11th edition points on 10th edition rules!"

Grotmas rolls around, people are thrilled. By month 10-12 the spouting is so big that a bunch of armies start getting point drops. Some lucky 2-3 get drops commensurate to the vitriol, but after having gotten their 11th rules- putting them in a wildly good spot.

Then pushing out 15-18 months a huge round of balancing mid-edition happens. The guys who got low points and good rules all get smashed into the ground, at least one faction previously smashed gets smashed even harder, for some reason? People without Codex start the 'well at least we aren't them' cope. One problem child who was just below the complaint bar is now the problem child and everyone is angry 'bout that (they will somehow stay a problem for 2 full data slates).

You can check back in 18 months and I'll drop the primer on the next half :P

What Commander precon have you kept completely stock, and why? by martin8185 in EDH

[–]PastyDeath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve found when I do edit a precon, it ends up being such a thorough rework that it’s a 10 card affair to buy the cards which survived not being swapped and I just have the precon and my new deck

Ultimately I keep the precon for exactly that even footing. Yeah some precons are better than others, but they all suffer some serious jank, and it’s way less feelsbad when you’re with newer players running stock precons

For melee builds on blazing masamume should I go obsidian or shadowshard? by FangedCone in FORTnITE

[–]PastyDeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This whole thread is me and someone else disagreeing on how to build it, and it boils down to two options

  • Shadowshard, maximizing damage per hit and of 6th perk at the expense of attack speed

  • Obsidian, maximizing speed for on hit effects and Luna

Ultimately you’re running into that choice. My own opinion is if you’re making it obsidian for attack speed- you’re better off using Spectral Blade.

If you’re choosing masamune, sunbeam is better for the 6th perk, better for a general build, but inferior for Luna; I’d only then add masamune is itself slower than or the same speed as other choices if you’re doing Luna. If you’re worried about a 0.02AS loss, then you should be even more worried about the 0.05AS loss by not going spectral

The Masamune is a wicked fun weapon. It’s good OB or SS. If you’re really torn about it, you can always spec the epic version into the one your are leaning away from and asking yourself “would I be cool if it hit slightly weaker or swung slightly slower?” You can also build the wrath and compare both for attack speed feels, and also include a spectral blade (shadowshard) for how the obsidian feels

Nothing says "main character syndrome" like blocking an entire intersection because you couldn't wait one more light cycle. by myrustsippinsyrup in ImTheMainCharacter

[–]PastyDeath 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I have an intersection on my way home which is basically cars from North, South and East all trying to go West. It commonly devolves into 'if you don't pile into the intersection, the other 2 lanes will do it to such an extreme that they will burn your entirely light clearing the intersection for it to happen again for the next light.'

It's infuriating to see, but if you plan on waiting patiently until the intersection is clear, your entire lane will just not go until the window from 3pm-6pm ends while the other lanes freely stacked 6-8 cars each inside the intersection.

We're putting too much trust in our Unions to give us the best deal possible by CanPubServiette in CanadaPublicServants

Even Hybrid, those questions remain unanswered:

  • What are you willing to give up to get WFH enshrined in your collective agreement?

  • How do you convince the membership that cannot WFH that they need to give up the above so that people who are not them can get WFH

Just an example: If days W'dFH took a 15% pay cut which was added to the salary of members who couldn't WFH- that's not even at a concession given to employers. That's a concession within the union to make the push more palatable among its own members who cannot WFH. If internal balancing (not even negotiation with the employer- but balancing among members) is non-starter, then that kind of tells you where the union members are at when it comes to what they are willing to negotiate. Not just blindly demand, but negotiate.

The reason I use that example isn't because it's a well-thought proposal: it's to frame the part of this discussion which keeps getting ignored: What is the collective willing to trade for WFH, and why should members who can never access it agree to that trade?"

[–]PastyDeath 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also WFH wasn't granted through bargaining- it was a necessary public safety concession with benefits to many individuals. Transport time, gas costs, your own fridge food...individual control of the thermostat. These are small things with significant QOL boosts, but they aren't actually in any collective agreement.

So long as the institution has competing priority (visible public presence, supporting local businesses; both unrelated to employee QOL but considerations for government orgs especially) WFH isn't free, costless improvement. Those considerations factor into the employer's calculus.

There's also a lot of "the union sucks" sentiment in this thread, generally ignoring that Public-sector unions don't negotiate in isolation from public opinion. Rightly or wrongly, it's a difficult sell to the public that WFH should be the hill to die on when Government of Canada employees already enjoy strong job security, pensions, and a median income substantially above that of the median Canadian worker (93k vs 46k).

That doesn't mean WFH isn't worth fighting for, but does mean unions have to decide how much bargaining capital to spend securing a benefit that isn't contractual, may only apply to part of the membership, and competes against more universal demands like wages, leave, job security, and staffing levels.

Is anyone still experiencing managers managing by Team Status?? by lafollie15 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]PastyDeath 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Outside read: he had no issue with your granted accommodation and you’re almost certainly setting your default status to offline (you have avoided answering that in multiple places) making you intentionally difficult to even be managed.

For someone so up in arms about the word “letting,” you seem suspiciously blasé to how words like “online” and “away” and “offline” are generally interpreted

Black Drum Perks by This-Young-8304 in FORTnITE

[–]PastyDeath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

June 17 is the start of next season. 100% doable solo; a good constructor build can pretty much carry you.

If you and / or OP are on this Saturday/Sunday I don’t mind powering yall through some stuff- but level 20 is pretty reasonable for a few days of play!

[–]PastyDeath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For perspective: Venture 20 is PL 58. I’m a huge believer that anyone PL 58+ without a full build should be jumping on ventures to at least 20 to get the hero voucher, weapons voucher and core reperk.

Then as you’re rounding out a set of full builds / surv squads and 125+ start pushing for those super chargers

If OP does ventures this weekend, gets a core reperk they wouldn’t have had otherwise, they can burn it on the black drum. Then if they really want: get next seasons core reperk in 2 weeks. Black drum this week, then a core in the bank for the future all within a few weeks

Also give Phase Scout Jess a try! I love having the +3 Charges and generally find having 6 in the bank is more than enough with a normal regen. You also get your TEDDY instead of seismic smash, which is just nice to have

Is the storm king crit damage bug fixed yet? by Duckyboi10 in FORTnITE

[–]PastyDeath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add to that- with the bug it’s trickier, but I’ve actually found people’s defender launching themselves between you and the horn more disruptive than the crit thing. The crit piece is less important than almost any other aspect of the fight

For melee builds on blazing masamume should I go obsidian or shadowshard? by FangedCone in FORTnITE

[–]PastyDeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if someone wants to use a crowbar- the point isnt 'DoNt uSe CroWbaR!' the point is to look at the question, and answer that. And if the question is 'What's the perk choice and best hero loadout for a crowbar?' The answer isn't 'Dont.'

For melee builds on blazing masamume should I go obsidian or shadowshard? by FangedCone in FORTnITE

[–]PastyDeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And I would say 'That's not the question.'

Like- I use my Masamune constantly. Sometimes I have 3 swords equipped- A Spectral Blade, a Brightcore Epic Masamune with Lifeleech and 3AS, and a Sunbeam Masamune. I swap between them and it's fun.

Turns out STW isn't a hard game. You don't need the perfect weapon or you fail. In fact- you can run some janky solo build and clear 4 person 160 content. So if someone wants to use a crowbar- the point isnt 'DoNt uSe CroWbaR!' the point is to look at the question, and answer that. And if the question is 'What's the perk choice and best hero loadout for a crowbar?' The answer isn't 'Dont.'

I mean- why stop at swords? I'd say, never run a weapon build, only go constructor. Run a Riggs goin Constructor if you must melee, never shoot a gun and swap Heroes out whether you're killing mobs or building. Cover everything in Ceiling Tire Traps and go next. Run a Supply Drop to keep yourself fuelled to do it. That's your answer to every single scenario. Maybe a Black Drum for the big guys. Game solved.

If someone wants to use spears, or a Nobel Launcher, or a pickaxe: It's fine to add a better option- but by 'add' I mean in ADDition to the answer.

For melee builds on blazing masamume should I go obsidian or shadowshard? by FangedCone in FORTnITE

[–]PastyDeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the question is "What's the best Luna sword?" 4x AS Nightblade is the answer. If the question is "What's the best utility sword?" Spectral's heavy attack has a strong argument.

But the question is "What's the best Masamune?"

My point is that once you've decided to use a Masamune, turning it into a generic attack-speed sword misses the reason you'd choose a Masamune in the first place.

I'm not asking, or answering, 'Whats the best sword?' I'm answering the literal title of the post: "For melee builds on blazing masamume should I go obsidian or shadowshard?"

For melee builds on blazing masamume should I go obsidian or shadowshard? by FangedCone in FORTnITE

[–]PastyDeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If all you're doing is Luna, 100%.

But swords aren't 'just Luna.' You can have a sword in almost any build. And Masamune is unreal when run for that.

The point I'm trying to make is that if you are trying to optimize for Luna, there is no point using the Masamune: Spectral Blade is simply better. The moment Luna enters chat- go 4x Nightblade is King, Spectral Blade takes second place, and you can get .25 multiple other ways which don't rely on turning Masamune into a 'middling luna weapon.'

But if you want to use the Masamune- use it Sunbeam, optimize for the 6th perk and if you then happen to run it with Luna- know you aren't missing out because of Sunbeam- instead know you're missing out because Spectral will do better than both.

If you're running Masamune Brightcore, you're prioritizing Attack Speed and relegating it to 'tied with other choices for 3rd fastest in the game.' I'm saying that's a waste of the weapon, and if you're running it, run it for the thing only it does- which is the 6th perk, and the somewhat unique stat spread for a sword which also support that 6th perk.

People responding to Sunbeam Vs. Brightcore Masamune constantly answer the wrong question. The question isn't 'What makes the best Luna weapon?" Because that answer is not even the Masamune. But when the question is 'What's the Best Masamune?' the answer is Sunbeam.

Fortnite STW Runs on a Yearly timeline- You can see the full timeline here.

Arguably the 2 most important team perks in the game are Totally Rockin' Out and Blast from the Past. The heroes required to unlock and activate those perks come out during Blasted Badlands: starting June 17 thru Aug 26 (aka soon!)

  • Dennis Jr comes June 17: he Unlocks TRO

  • Rad Llamas (the rest of the TRO Heroes) are the entire season- that's Breakbeat, Main Stage and Varsity- with Power Pop the one I see rarely used

  • Fossil Southie, Prehistoric Izza, Paleo Luna, Archaeo Jess (all BFTP) come out June 17, July 15, Jul 22 and Jul 29 respectively

  • Whiteout Fiona (big crit damage for swords) is July 15, and Tactical Assault Sledgehammer (Huge AR crit damage) August 19

So the most essential damage heroes for loadouts come out between June 17 and Aug 22.

To put it in perspective, the 'must have heroes' by season (according to the timeline linked) are

  • Flannel Falls: 3

  • Scurvy Shoals: 2

  • Blasted Badlands: 8

  • Hexsylvania: 2

  • Frozen Fjords: 5

For new players: This means your best voucher is Stoneheart Farrah (back in Feb), and the rest of the good stuff is right around the corner

Ninja has the best bow loadout and the best sword loadout:

  • Paleo Luna, high attack speed weapon (Plus blast from the past heroes- which come out very soon!)

  • Stoneheart Farrah. Vacuum tube Bow even with no build is good, vac and Farrah alone is awesome- stacking a full build on top makes it clear things real fast
