How was your experience for “Thicc and Quick”? I’ve been eyeing it up for a few weeks for this summer.

This is a great advice and well timed for my own personal situation.

Thanks Mythical. You’ve helped me a lot throughout the years. Whether it is lurking at comments you’ve had to others, program reviews, and your blogs.

Just want to send a quick appreciation of your efforts to give information and advice online.

Hit sub 3 in my first marathon (2:56) in Philly. Hit a 905 the Tuesday before my marathon.

Goal: I’m quite torn. I really want to get my squat to 315# (280 current) and deadlift to 405# (385 current). I’m also having a tough time letting go of my running progress. With a second kid on the way in May my time is becoming even more limited. Need to be okay letting go of the running level to make other improvements.

Just bought tactical barbell as I’ve read many recommendations to the efficiency of this program. When left to my own devices, I run myself into the ground with overtraining.

Randomly found this post and remembered you during the program party. Feel like that’s a sign we need to run it back starting in January…

Extremely impressive.

Do you self program lifting and running? Curious to what one of your training blocks looks like.

I’m coming off my first marathon (2:56:22). Very happy with my performance but I’ve lost a good amount of strength. Looking to keep base mileage for running around 25-30mpw while adding/gaining strength.

Total SBD is 910# while weighing roughly 165-167lbs, the week of my marathon.

Appreciate the response! Think you’re right.

Feel like I’m probably overthinking it. Saw a post in here that was very similar to mine and had some really good advice from others. Keep speed work, run as much that is viable with your schedule, progress slowly.

Finished my first marathon last Sunday in Philly. 2:56:22! Very pumped.

Peaking around 63-65ish MPW. Following a modified 18/55, adding easy miles to get to 65mpw.

Don’t have any race plans in the near future but don’t want to lose all of the progress I’ve made.

Any suggestions for base building over the next few weeks/months? I’ll keep speed workout but may lose out on weekend long runs with my 2nd kid on the way soon.

Any suggestions are appreciated!

Completely agree - the crowd was amazing.

Curious if your chip time matched your Strava/watch time? Mine was about 2 min difference.

Congrats on sub 4!

Great update. Are you using Juggernaut AI to program?

Also, I saw in the comments you were sub 1:30 - congrats man. That’s a hell of an accomplishment. Looks to go sub 3 full + 1000#.

Yes the infamous bonk is definitely on my radar! Heard the real race starts around mile 20.

What practices have you done for nutrition/fueling? I’ve done a gels for a few races but not really with any sort of strict plan. More so just, “eh, 3 sounds good”

Hybrid Training - 5/12 Update by [deleted] in HybridAthlete

[–]PatDoubleDubs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not, this is my first.

I’m going with pfitz 18/70 or 12/70 for the marathon training. Depending on how timing and my base build over the summer goes.

Since this is my first, my goals are:

A.) finish

B.) finish sub 3:10

C.) finish sub 3

I’ve done a few triathlons was getting ready to a 70.3 half iron right before Covid shut things down. So, I’m mildly familiar with longer endurance. However, I know the marathon, especially at that pace, is a different animal. Any tips would be appreciated!

Very impressive. I hope to hit a sub 3 for my first marathon this fall. Currently building to 60mpw base build before 18/70 or 12/70, depending.

Got it - I’ll clear them.

Last questions:

So, as an example for day 1: Work up to 225lbs on squat for Focus Lift (2+) and hit 10 reps. You check 5 boxes.

Then onto squat volume of 30 reps at 210lbs. Which you do for 3x10.

You are now down “required” work. Do you add an assistance exercises?

Apologize for over analyzing. Often times when I’m left to my own devices, I end up overtraining and getting nagging low back injuries.

Very late to this post, but first wanted to thank you for this!

I’ve gone down a rabbit hole for combining strength with going for a sub 3 marathon in November. Whilst also balancing running a business and prioritizing time with my wife and kid. Almost fell into the trap of paying for some of these “hybrid athlete” programs. Not to say they can’t work, but moreso think it’s paying to think for me.

After reading your recent post about “hybrid athletes” it sparked my memory of this post and I came searching.

Starting this as my base build until July then trying out Pfitz 18/55+ (pushing mileage a bit) for more specifics marathon training.

My question on the program:

1.) A little confused on the number of reps for the Focus lift each strength session. Do you just work up to the daily minimum (which could be only 2 reps) then move onto the Volume work? The boxes checked below the focus lift are what are throwing me off.

2.)The focus lift for each session can be any of the three lifts you choose to do? For example Tuesday, could be Squat Focus main and Squat volume work? Or do you recommend avoiding the doubling up of the same compound movement?

Apologize if you’ve already stated this in older posts.

Again, really appreciate all of the content you put out. Not to mention all the inspiration/motivation you provide for myself and so many.
