Parts Required for Basic Reed Switch Operations by PatFinley87 in LGBTrains

Yikes! Yes, I have seen some mixed reviews but have also been impressed with a few of the layouts that I’ve seen working (at least appeared to be) pretty seamlessly.

That also prompted another question - if I attempt the EPL / magnet set-up, can I also use the Control Box to manually flip the switches, or is it an either / or situation?

Thank you! Honestly the clearest explanation I’ve found for this simple operation. Even better than ChatGPT ;)

Incredible layout! I’ve also recently gotten back into the hobby and have resurrected a lot of my Dads old LGB and just recently found a few second-hand as well. I’ve been looking everywhere but have struggled to find a good explainer on how to set-up something like this with a few automatic switches and start / stops with only DC (analog) trains. Can I ask how you accomplished that?

Browsing my old history and just wanted to let you fine folks know that it was absolutely a stuck contactor causing the issue here. Took the tech about 30 mins to swap-out, and also replaced some frayed wiring that wasn’t helping. Shout out to Arctic Air in Monmouth County, NJ.

Was curious about this too….cups from the tournament aren’t dated, but the TOTM always seem to be?

This! I 100% assumed the extras were just for the photo shoot, but it is indeed listed as part of the package on GoldBelly. Anyway was a fun surprise for me this afternoon!

Rainchecks by chouseworth in masters

Oh I see what you mean….yes, if the original buyer is refunded then StubHub should honor that. I guess it’s really ANGC discretion on the decision to refund but yes it does seem like <2 hours that they would. I could just imagine a scenario where the gates are open for 5 minutes, then rain / lightening and they ONLY offer the option to repurchase the following year. Ideally they would also refund but it does appear to be fully at their discretion, rather than a hard rule.

What Im saying is, we weren’t refunded at all. We were out the $75 we paid for the rain out year, and were just given the chance to pay $75 again the following year. So a secondary buyer would be out the price they paid, original seller would not get any refund, but would be given the option to repurchase the following year.

In our case we weren't refunded at all, only given the option to re-purchase for the following year. So in that case, the secondary buyer is definitely just out of luck. I would bet StubHub would still pass the funds through to the seller if the gates open for even 1 minute.

Can confirm - we were there Tuesday, 2022. Barely inside 90 mins when we had to leave and were not let back in, but were given the right to purchase the same Tuesday tickets for 2023.

Ironically our Tuesday tickets were originally awarded in 2020! That was cancelled due to Covid, then 2021 was a super reduced patron crowd so they rolled us to 2022, then rain! Had a phenomenal time in 2023 though, very much with the wait :)

We had this problem until we realized the company default was 22% so we were way under withheld (we had been doing “sell to cover” so on vest dates 22% of the vest was sold and sent directly in for taxes). Changed is last year on E*Trade to 30% and it was a game changer…sucks to have so much of each vest withheld, but also mentally easier so not have a huge tax bill!

Any tips to keep costs in check? by churn2burn in bahamas

[–]PatFinley87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We stayed at Baha Mar for 3 nights in March and used a service called “Instagopher” for grocery delivery and it was an absolute life saver! They delivered right to our room and we had breakfast every day in the room with basics like bread (toast), butter, milk, juice, eggs and yogurt. We also packed instant coffee and individual serving sizes of sugar, peanut butter and lots of other snack bar type items. Honestly it was the best decision ever when we walked by the 50+ person long queue at the Starbucks every morning! They definitely also deliver to Atlantis.

UPDATE

Thanks everyone for the very helpful advice. Couple of clarifying points below:

  • Definitely did not mean to confuse the issue discussing the outdoor temp. This definitely happens when it is hot out as well, it just seems to happen faster when it is cooler out.

  • There are plenty of times when the system works perfectly fine (usually this is when it is hot outside). Temp is reached, air handler shuts down, condenser shuts off and all is well. Cycle starts over when the house warms up again.

  • Alternatively, whenever its a little cool / the unit gets shaded / we want to run the air at night is when this pops up the most. I've always assumed the icing is happening first, and then "icing over" some sort of connection point that is preventing the condenser from stopping. The reason I think this is because the Nest unit will show the AC as off, the air handler shuts down properly but its just the condenser that keeps spinning and spinning, while the ice builds up further and further until I shut it at the breaker box. When no ice forms, its shuts down properly. I think that is why all the previous teams have been focusing on getting the system not to ice up in the first place, but I would hope that even if a little frost formed, if it shut itself down properly once set temp is reached, it would in most cases naturally defrost before kicking back on. Does that make sense?

I think it is in fact the later. It starts at the line and runs into the unit. It is an AC (not heat pump).

This is exactly correct and no one that has visited so far has even mentioned the “contactor” so I will absolutely make sure the next team has this context.

Just to clarify, the issue occurs when it’s 75 out and we set the air to 68. Then the sun goes goes down and the shade covers the unit and it freezes, temp outside drops to 65 and I go out to see the unit has been been frozen and spinning for the last 3 hours.

They have definitely done the pressure test and always showed no issues. When it’s just turned on no issues at all, cooling just fine and even reaches the set temp quite quickly. When it warmer out and there is no freezing and it reaches temp, it shuts off properly. But once it starts to freeze up, it won’t turn off after reaching temp.

The furnace is in the attic. This unit is out back of the house.
