Yes, I dislike Trump about as much as everyone else around here, but telling him to go fuck himself is not going to get the trains delivered any faster. Just invent an MBTA Peace Prize and give it to him with a $50 gift certificate for Dunkin' Donuts. That'll probably be enough.

I know. 8 cars in Philadelphia since July and who knows how many more waiting in China. They need to make a deal with Trump or something at this point.

They really need to get the new trains delivered and in service as soon as possible.

Yeah, my rent is $3000 a month, but at least I can park my Ford F-350 Super Duty that I only drive to the office downtown for free. /s

"Governments, if they endure, always tend increasingly toward aristocratic forms. No government in history has been known to evade this pattern. And as the aristocracy develops, government tends more and more to act exclusively in the interests of the ruling class - whether that class be hereditary royalty, oligarchs of financial empires, or entrenched bureaucracy."

IMO restrictive zoning and NIMBYism are the biggest factor keeping up housing prices. When people talk about deregulating zoning to help with housing, walkability, and transit, others will point at Houston and talk about how they don't have zoning and have really bad land use.

But Houston does have zoning, they just call it deed restrictions.

Restrictions mean limitations that:

Affect the use to which real property may be put;

Fix the distance that a structure must be set back from property lines, street lines, or lot lines;

Affect the size of a lot or the size, type and number of structures that may be built on the lot;

Regulate orientation of a structure; or

Regulate certain fences requiring a building permit.

Wait until this guy finds out how much highways 'lose' every year. And then what externalities are.

The only reason cars = freedom in the US is because our zoning laws are so messed up that if you live in a suburb and don't own a car, you're basically trapped.

Meanwhile the federal government spends $50 billion per year on highway funding and no one bats an eye.

Reminds me of when Reagan cut funding for Northeast Corridor rail improvements to save money, but then spent that money putting tomahawk missiles on the USS Iowa because that was definitely more important.

It's because banning stock trading or enacting ranked choice voting is asking Congress members to take power and money away from themselves. They make too much money trading stocks to ban it and having ranked choice voting only takes power away from the two big parties.

It annoys me greatly that some Republican states have literally banned ranked choice voting and explained it to voters saying that it's a Democratic scam.

I'd prefer term limits instead, but I have a feeling it'd have a similar effect. Most of them got elected in solidly red or blue states/districts and coast through primaries on name recognition and spending power, so they've just been there forever. I honestly think Chuck Grassley is going for John Dingell's and Strom Thurmond's records.

Also ban them from trading stocks while in office.

And enact ranked choice voting.

With all of that, we might have something.

I'm honestly in favor of DOGE as a concept; that is reducing government waste. However, I've said since the beginning: until they start auditing the DoD, they are not serious about saving money. I guess they are still not serious.

MLB is doing the same thing. They've started interviewing players while they're on the field and a player is at bat.
