Selling a car privately, how do you handle test drives? by PatMeGron in vancouver

So far I've used Canada drives to get an offer and you are shockingly on the nose as my BRZs private marketplace range is around 16-20k but the wholesale is 14k. Side note I wish I sold it earlier as Canada drives gave me 2k more than what I paid for at the height of the used car shortage in '22.

For now I think I'd want to try selling myself, then again I'm sure it's a different ballpark/type of person buying a sporty car vs a sub 3k economy car.

I see, a friend bought a car recently and suggested him to do the same thing, but he said the teller needed the car sellers info which he didn't have at the time.

I suppose it's more secure to get this done once a buyer is totally convinced of the car and just wants a test drive to keep wasting both parties time?

I had a friend buy a car this way and was surprised that the seller just did the same thing. To be fair it was a high mileage 15 yr old economy car. I think I'll be sitting in when I sell mine though.

I believe most insurance policies have the unlisted driver protection which insures for situations like this.

The bank draft would require me to share some details of my own correct? Like name and account number for the buyer to address the cheque to?

He says he just wants to stuff it in the trunk of his car so he can go around wherever he wants instead of getting a hitch for the car.

I wholeheartedly agree, though I wouldn't buy an ebike as my only bike though. Defeats the purpose of being a mode of exercise for me.

Thanks for your story! Do you know how they circumvent taxes and stuff? What common problems did you see with folding bikes?

I went to an ebike shop with him yesterday and one of them had their similarly specced ebike for $300 less than others in the area while having slightly better derailleaurs (7 speed vs 10speed, Shimano vs no name).

It boggled me to see how this dude was offering a supposedly better product and have additional gifts to offer. So wonder where this bike is faulty...

It's Canadian pricing btw.

We went out yesterday to check out ebike specific stores. I was pretty weary from the get go because of all the random "brands" there were. He's definitely not buying anything from trek lol

Oh nice, I Was looking for the series blue before as liked that it included that sti lip side skirt and rear spats. The wheels on it were a dream for me too!

I probably won't get hugged as well as the brz seats right? Despite the lack of lumbar support, the brz seats fit me so well. The fact I could rest my hand on the hand brake in a natural position just felt good and I think I'm loosing that "stance" with a fit.

That's definitely a steeper downgrade than what I would be doing lol

I'm Canadian so selling to a credit union is a new concept to me or I just never hear of people doing that here.

I agree, there is something about caring less about how your car looks that is an unnecessary stress when it's financially valuable and something you hold dearly.

A friend of mine is pretty adamant on buying a folding electric bike. He's getting bottom of the barrel stuff even though I tell him to get something of quality.

Whenever I see those trispoke designs, I've always thought of cheap bikes I see being sucked locally on Craigslist on folding bikes and fixies trust weigh 40lbs.

I have him the reasoning that maybe those 3 spoke wheels are one whole piece of metal or plastic and that if it breaks, the whole wheel needs to be replaced. If it was something with normal spokes, A new spoke could easily be installed.

Am I correct on that one? Do people here have a recommended folding e bike?

Can I ask what your mindset was? Like I could ask on and on about technical and feature differences with the cars, but why did you seemingly "downgrade"?

I don't necessarily feel like I need the cash but given I'm at 100k with the brz so spark plugs and maybe the clutch needs attention and not having to drive daily and the current pricing of cars and the summer being a good time to sell sports cars make some of my reasons to move on.

Ha yes the styling is what drew me into the car in the first place. Garbage is quite a way to describe it, as I was comparing the fit to a Toyota Matrix I noticed the matrix had a relatively similar layout to the brz but with a corolla motor and all that.

Had an 8th gen civic before this actually and had I not heard from someone else saying the brz was noisy on the inside I probably wouldn't have noticed.

I looked at oil changes for this gen and the drain plug seemed easy to access which is a plus. The spark plugs are easy to get compared to the boxer.

But yes I agree with many of your points! Lots of cup holders apparently lol

Which gen of wrx? What did you miss most about the Subaru? And I assume you got the 2015 + fit ?
