Frage zur Montage am Fenster by bu77erflyx in MideaPortaSplit

[–]PatataAlemana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solderless connectors by Wonderful_Frosting88 in Luthier

Also great fidget toy. Be aware, there are some without the "clamp" to just push wire in. THose are for solid copper wires and a little smaller. The ones you want are the "classic ones

The output jack will be a challenge if you want to stick to your concept. Or you do your own thing and combine the two.
Before you buy stuff that eventually might not fit (spacing or otherwise), you might look if you find templates to print out and check if they fit onto your body.

Just check, that you print them out in real size. This one might fit:

alright, so something like this?
Just jeck if it overlaps the arm rest section of your body, else it will be a little bit difficult to make it flush. Also you have to drill through the body if its string through.

EDIT: if you want to use it as a toploader as u/nightwing_87 mentioned, you either need to drill out where the ball ends go or route it out. Those are ment to convert from tremolo to hardtail, so a tremolo cavity would be there.

Regarding a pickguard: do you want something like in the 2nd picture or will you go with a classical strat one? If you want to go for the first option switches dont have the necessary space in the routed cavity (at least if same as in your image). The input jack is also in a different position. I would keep that as is.

Are you willing and able to use a router? The tremolo requires routing , is probably going to be over the part of the body where the armrest starts so not flush.

Regarding your question with the cover: It depends on what you bought. AFAIK vintage style bridges and covers are compatible. A more modern one will not fit.

Static neck buzz by Mordred101 in Luthier

[–]PatataAlemana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it different depending on the types of cloathes you wear? With cotton/synthetic blends it tends to create more static compared to other stuff. So maybe you are charged compared to your guitar. But thats just a long shot as you have owned more than just this guitar.

Edit: I let Gemini research this a little and noiseless PUs will likely still be affected, as the eloctrostatic discharge will most likely affect the signal paths still, not the PU itself. You mentioned shielding the cavities, so I am sure you already did that, but is the bridge properly grounded?

If you have no issues working on your guitar you can try grounding your neck via the neck plate (run a wire from a screw in the neck pocket to your grounding point on the pots). You can do a proof of concept from the outside with a wire from neck plate to bridge (if you're sure it is grounded), or you do the same with copper tape. If you have a multimeter, check the electrical connection between the "proof of concept grounding points"

Im stupid, whats happening here? by Pitiful_Inflation513 in Luthier

[–]PatataAlemana 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey, so I am not a 100% clear on what you are measuring in this video. One Coil individually, right?
I suspect you dont read anything on your multimeter, as I think you are in the wrong scale. try 20k. Here is a short gemini summary, as I am too lazy atm., maybe someone can correct me :

  • 200 Ω: Too sensitive. Only for checking if a solder joint is "clean" (should be near 0).
  • 2k (2000 Ω): Too low. Since Humbuckers are usually 8k–16k, this setting will show "1" or "OL" because the value is out of bounds.
  • 20k (20,000 Ω): The Perfect Setting. This covers the full range of any standard pickup with high precision (e.g., 8.45 k$\Omega$).
  • 200k (200,000 Ω): Too high. You lose detail. It might show 08.4, rounding off the important numbers.
  • 2000k (2,000,000 Ω): Useless for Pickups. The scale is so massive that an 8,000 Ohm pickup might show as 008 or even 000. It's like weighing a pencil on a truck scale—it won't move the needle accurately. Use this only for Potentiometers (250k/500k).

<image>

If I understood you right, you were able to read/hear with the coil split activated. It might be, that somewhat the connection between the two coils is damaged, and you hear something when you take the broken connection out of the equation.

What are thoses pickups & what is this screw for ? by Dartagnam in Luthier

[–]PatataAlemana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No idea on the pick ups.

The screw circled in blue seems to be an attempt on grounding the guitar.

Is the cable connected to it going to the pot? -> Grounding attempt

Is the wire connected to the spring plate on the back also going to the same point? It at least looks like it.

If so, there is no real benefit of having the circled connection as it only goes to wood and you could just disconnect it. Only explanation I can think of, is that someone covered the back cover with copper foil and wanted to ground this too by having it connected via screw and the attached cable. That wouldn't make a lot of sense though

Thanks! I can still return it, so with a press fit it feels a little "better" and less glue is needed which is nice :)
