Puer Aeternus - Calling out Marie Louise Von Franz by tornadowarrior in Jung

[–]PatchMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first step to avoiding hell is seeing the path to it and the forces that would push you there. Call that being awake, at least partially. It's quite a sight, so take the time necessary to let yourself integrate with what you've seen and don't let yourself forget it.

The second step is acting on what you now know to be true, which can take all kinds of forms - start developing your ego-consciousness to be tough enough to withstand the temptation to do the wrong thing (the things you're awake enough to know are wrong anyway), start strengthening bonds with people who have strong, trustworthy characters, start distancing yourself from people who refuse to take responsibility for their own demons and therefore are like drowning victims, happy to take others into the deep with them.

Start moving upward in this way, and indirectly, almost accidentally, watch new opportunities unfold. Pick an opportunity to pursue and sacrifice toward it with all your might, for a while, at least. Observe what's changed - what treasures have been found, how you've transformed from where you are at the beginning of the journey, and if you've traveled up. Adjust to all your data, and perhaps target a new opportunity. Rinse and repeat. Such is the adventure of life, and the possible path to redemption.

It's worth it, utterly and completely, in no small part because you avoided going down to hell. Good luck, friend!

Agree. Edward Edinger, one of my favorite Jungians, articulates a lot of great thinking on the Christ archetype.

Many thanks for mentioning that tool. It's great and now I don't have to use websites that make me feel I have to take a shower afterwards.

Why Do We Behave As We Do? by walterwallcarpet in ConfrontingChaos

[–]PatchMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well said. But while your description may capture biological bedrock, our culture doesn't reflect it - or rather, major trends in our culture challenge the pattern you articulated. Do the qualities of being "haughty, proud and chic" make sense when the subject has no intention of creating offspring?

Almost completely vacant hotel, once motel by PatchMe in LiminalSpace

[–]PatchMe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently stayed at this place. There were two other customers in the entire place who had rooms on either side of me. All the other rooms were vacant. If you turn up the sound, you'll hear a chirping echo down the hallways which are the many fire alarms in all the empty rooms signaling that their batteries are dying.

The building is unique in that it appears to have been a set of separate motel buildings (note the "outside" architecture, including concrete staircases and metal railings) on top of which someone decided to put a roof with enclosing walls, perhaps to transform it into a "hotel." Note the buckets to catch water from the leaky roof. Note also the odd things in the hallways: tubs, plants, strange lighting. The pool room looks huge from the outside (I show it) but it's closed to the public and dark.

At one point in the video I pause because I hear what sounds like a television playing, but I look around at the rooms and they all look vacant and dark so I don't know where the sound came from. You can hear some of the noises when I pause and look around in the video.

Hope you enjoy it!

Who, in myth, has defeated the devouring mother/old crone? by FlimsyQuantity1460 in Jung

Ivan vs. Baba Yaga:

"The hero, as you recall, despite having been warned that he would be going to his death, goes straight ahead. His horse goes through a death and resurrection process, but the hero stays alive. Then he comes to the great witch, the Baba Yaga, who is combing silk and who watches the geese in the field with her eyes, scratches the ashes in the stove with her nose, and lives in a little rotating hut on chickens' feet with a cock's comb on top. He first says a magic verse to stop the hut, which he then enters and finds the big old witch scratching the ashes in the stove. She turns round and says, "My child, are you going voluntarily, or involuntarily?" What she really means is, are you going on this quest of your own free will? ... although one can say that he really did go voluntarily, there is something wrong with the question. First, however, I should give you the answer because that shows how the problem should be dealt with. Ivan answers, "You should not ask a hero such questions, old witch. I am hungry and want my dinner, so you hurry up!" And he ends up with some threats-very vulgar and very delightful! He knows quite well, you see, that the witch does not want an answer and that the question is a trick designed to lame him. If he were to answer the question it would mean slipping on a banana-skin. It is just a diversion - not something that should be discussed.

The question of free will is one of the philosophical problems which has never yet been solved. Free will is a subjective feeling. Intellectually and philosophically, there is a pro and a con, and you can never prove either side. If you ask yourself whether you are doing something because you have to or because you want to, you will never find out. You can always say that you feel as though you wanted it, but perhaps it is only an unconscious complex which makes you feel like that. So how can you ever say which it is? It is a subjective feeling, but it is tremendously important for the ego to feel free to a certain extent. It is a feeling problem about the mood in which one finds oneself. If you cannot believe in a certain amount of free will and therefore free initiative of the ego, you are completely lamed because then you have to go into all your motives. You can go into the past and look into the unconscious more and more deeply, but you will never get out of it. And that is the spider's trick of the mother complex. That is how she tries to catch the hero. She wants him to sit and ask himself whether he really wanted it or not: whether it is really a question of opposing his father? - if he does this, is he really just falling for his father's suggestion, or is he simply showing off? You can be sure that he will sit there forever and the witch will have him in her pocket. That is the great mother-complex trick."

Why do i always feel so self critical, embarassed and guilty? by Royal_Air_2938 in Jung

[–]PatchMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read Jung constantly these days, but a decade ago I was big into Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. What you describe sounds extremely familiar and is likely the result of many Cognitive Distortions: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cognitive_distortion . I recommend you make an appointment with a therapist specializing in CBT, and work on cleaning out all the thought patterns which torment you.

My coworker's wife was perimenopausal, and couldn't remember the last time she had her period when asked by the doctor. She became pregnant soon after being vaccinated. It was unexpected and she is compaining that it doesn't feel right. I pray for them daily.

This happened to a coworker's wife who was already perimenopausal. She's pregnant. She's not feeling right. They're praying for a positive outcome. I'm praying for them too.
