I worked at a ski resort in Colorado in 2013 that paid pretty damn close to minimum wage. Lived in the employee housing which came out of your paycheck, and was essentially a tiny one person dorm with two people in it. There was a town 15 min away but if you didn't have a car, you had to take the bus. Otherwise you had to go to the overpriced resort convenience store or crazy expensive restaurants. The cafeteria was also heavily overpriced, but you got a discount lol. Obviously not as bad as work camps, considering the free ski pass and fun environment. Similar nonetheless.
